Title: VM36 carb install
Post by suzukis on 06/22/12 at 21:24:52

hello, so i posted earlier on the week about getting help on how to install new VM36 carb. I have few issues.
1- My throttle cable would not fit in the new carb. what kind of throttle cable do i need.
2- the new carb i got is complete do i have to change jets or anything.(I thought its made for the bike?)
I have been searching on this site and cannot find any post to help me with the issue for throttle cable.
Cheers

Hello again...
You seem to be asking the same questions as in your previous post...
I'm afraid you are only going to get the same answers...

The carb you have is not for this bike... the stock carb is a Mikuni BS40...
The carb you have will be much more difficult to make work...

Are you in the US?...

As stated in the other post you made.  Lancer is the only one that has pre-made cables that will work.  He has them custom made to work with those style carbs.  Your only other option will be to go through another store that will make custom cables as there are no cables on the market that work with the Savage Throttle set and the VM style carbs.

Also as stated in the other post you will have to re-jet.  You have alot of work ahead of you to get it right with the carb you picked.

That carb is not made for the Savage at all,  it has to be made to fit it. We can help if you will listen and do what is told. If you don't plan on making bigger performance mods you will be far better off to sell it, and get the correct carb for your bike. Also VM carbs are alot more sensitive to tuning then the Stock carb is.  Meaning it will take alot more work to get it tuned to your bike properly and also if your constantly changing altitudes and weather conditions you will constantly be fiddling with the carb to keep your bike running at it's best.

Dude, I have all of the parts you need for converting the VM carb to work on your bike.
I have been putting together complete carb kits for many years and have done the work to gather the correct parts to make it work.

... from a hundred yards with one hand tied behind his back...

Seriously: ALL of your questions were already answered; plainly and clearly.
Either talk to Lancer about your VM carb, or buy the correct one and install it.

It should have been obvious when the VM carb arrived that it doesn't match the one in your hand...

I'm sorry if this is frustarting you, but you ARE getting the help that you need. God luck!!

I'm sorry for all the headache. my dad has been posting then asking him to help out so I end up posting same questions, without knowing that he had already post it. lancer has complete kits for the carb so i can make it fit. I will buy one and have the bike dyno tuned @local shop. We we not looking for more power. From what I read online people said to get the VM36 or VM38 carb. so I got the VM36 carb. The bike also has a aftermarket exhaust.

Title: carburator problem
Post by suzukis on 07/01/12 at 10:26:18

Hi,
My Suzuki now has Mikuni carburetor and con air filter but pop up another problem and so far I cant solve it. On high RPM the engine die. I tried to play with the air mixture and idle but nothing positive. I need some idea what to do and if somebody know a specialist close to Kirkland area WA.
Thanks

Have you got a fuel filter (i.e., clogged)?   It sounds like maybe a starvation problem.

This should probably be moved to "rubber side"...   moderators!!!

The filter is new con filter. On low RPM is excellent. Looks like on high RPM doesn't go enough fuel. I am not experience at all for the carburetor. This is my second bike but with the first one I didn't have any problems.

I'm talking about the FUEL filter, not the AIR filter.   If it's partially clogged, it may pass enough fuel for low speed, but cause starvation on high speed (requires more fuel flow).   It could even be the screen inside the tank, depending???

OOO  :). I see what you mean. I will check it but with the old carburetor I didn't have this problem. I change it because my son damaged the jet at all and I couldn't fix it.

I remember who this is.  You are the one that was asking about the VM style carb.  Did you re-jet the carb, or just try tuning it with the air mixture screw?  If you didn't re-jet then that is where your problem is.  The VM carb is gonna take alot of playing with to get it tuned properly to the Savage's engine.  Once you have it jetted to where it seems to run o.k. then that is the time you need to start pulling the plug after some rides and read it to see which way you need to go for fine tuning it.  Right now it sounds like you are way lean on the main jet.

may be problem is not in carb. chek the vacuum line of your carb and petcock. if it's ok, check the needle valve in carb.

Guys, I am not clear with the jet advice. There has only one jet(kind a pin) for the throttle and I see only one more screw jet on the side except the idle. I am really virgin about this problems  :). Which one I have to change and how to find it. The summer is over guys, I like to ride the bike. :'(

you have to pull the bowl off the carb, to re-jet it.  The jets are on the inside of the carb.

The bowl?? Is this the bottom on the carb or the top?

If this is not a stock carb, you really need to say so or you're going to get the wrong advise.

Here is a pic of a VM style carb.  Part number 21 is the pilot jet and part number 36 is the main jet.  Those will be the primary ones you will be changing for tuning.

Lancer, since you're keen to give advice, how about you tell me what jets I should try on my Ryca.  With the VM36 installed as you mailed it to me, it idles, but, as soon as I crack the throttle it dies.  I can very sloooowly rev it up, but, if I crack it, she dies.  I guess I'm going to have to pull it apart and see what jets are in it since you don't know what you sent to me.
