I was putting a transmission in a unit on location in West Tx. I took a thermometer & put it in my toolbox. It looked a lot like that one,
I had to lay rags over the tools I had out so I could pick them up w/o getting branded.

AZ is wonderful in the winter, but you can have the summers.

Have you ever gone down to the Titan II ICBM site south of town?   You can tour the only site left intact after SALT.   In the late 60's I was Team Chief of 395 Baker site at Vandenburg AFB.   Saw lots-o-big-boomers, and have reached out and touched 9 megaton warheads.   They called it MAD; mutually assured destruction.   I called it crazy!   :o

Been there. Even scarier than the nuc missle subs that showed up at Rota, Spain, where I was stationed in the late 60s. Looking DOWN at a multiple-warhead delivery device, and contemplating the potential results of its use, is too much for my already-lurid imagination. We have a long way to go, but we've come a long, long way.

It's like wearing an ice cube helmet in a lobster broiler,... and you know it's killing you, but you just can't take it off...

Here in Roma, hot summers mean a few things...

Hot, sticky days, with humidity as high as 80+% :-[http://www.ilgrecale.it/public/news/default/450/7486IMG12263-532.jpg

Sunbathing tourists... :D

So it's mostly NOGAAT (No gear at any time  :(

ATGATT really isn't that necessary in places where most crashes happen at 20mph. Heck, crashes are at such low speeds over there that the EU forced auto manufacturing to revise the distance between the hood and engine so when pedestrians get hit, the hood won't crumple into the engine and will allow the pedestrian to walk away unscathed. Here in the states? The speeds of crashes are so high that if a pedestrian gets hit, both of them are a write-off.

Hmmmm ? ? ? ? ?

What are your intentions with this innocent young girl ? ? ?

Now we know where your mind goes when you are just pondering things.    ::)

I put my helmet in the freezer at the school I taught at yesterday. Kept me cool for most of the hour's ride home.

Heck, that is a darn good idea. A good day here in Charleston is 80-90% humidity and a high of 95. That would be a cool summer day.  ;)

mpescatori, anytime you want to trade one hot sticky tourist trap for another I would love to come over and visit the relatives in Rome.

I used to work for a Corp named Aerotherm.   We made refrigerated helmets for Nascar and Indy type racing.   Your head is your primary radiator of heat, so if you can keep a cool head (so to speak), you're more alert and your whole body feels better.   Unfortunately, most helmet makers pay little attention to this, so on particularly hot days a helmet can downgrade its own safety factor.

I would be scared that putting my helmet in the freezer may degrade the inside of it somehow.  Probably not, but it just don't sound right.

I was just thinking that it'd fog up something fierce when you take it out of the freezer.  I guess you just don't freeze the shield if it has one.

This pic is REAL, and was taken in Romania.

Bellieve it or not, THIS GIRL GOT A TICKET FOR RIDING WITHOUT A HELMET !

http://www.bellefrasi.org/immaginilink/300420120929.jpg

So she donnet a helmet and they sped off... it seems there isn't a law on what kind of clothing is mandatory when riding; the law mentions unruly behavior and immodest clothing when walking,
but Officer, i'm not walking, I'm riding...
:-?
;D ;D ;D

I wish I had the room in my freezer todo that,  These TX summers are a killer,  I've hung up the vented Jacket I bought for the MSF for the summer already and it hasn't even hit into the hot part of the summer yet.  Now I just go with short sleeve shirt and my jeans. Still use the full face modular helmet though.

I hit the waterhose before I ride away & carry a refilled bottled water & a pump up sports mister mounts on the bike. Ill stay a lot cooler than the average guy. & Even when I was roughnecking, I wore long sleeves with a t shirt. A Too Big shirt( Not Huge, dont want it getting hung in machinery) keeps the sun off. Watch Lawrence of Arabia, they didnt run around with the sun beating on bare skin..
Also, those white Painters Pants dont lay tight on the skin, so, they keep the heat from walkin right in,
Yes, they laffed at me when I wore white pants on a rig & no, they didnt stay white, but they stayed a Lot cooler than blue jeans,

They say denim wont hold up on asphalt., & it wont for a long slide, but its a lot tougher & easier to replace than skin, A welders shirt is a tough, tight weave. I recommend it & I have one that slid over 60 feet & it has no holes in it, Khaki is a good summer color,
