Title: Custom Made Stainless Drag Pipe
Post by CoreyKat on 06/21/12 at 08:26:23

I think there has been thread similar to this. I'm wondering if anyone has found or built a baffle for a drag pipe that sounds good on the LS650. I built a custom one peace drag pipe by chopping the stock header at the the lower elbow and cutting and extending the inner header pipe by 2" and fabed an expansion cone for a smooth transition to a 2"x0.065 wall 304 stainless drag pipe. I also corrected the in and up angle of the stock header to have the pipe run straight along side the bike and level with the ground. My question is if anyone has bought or built and baffle that sound good and perform well. I am currently running a homemade auger baffle that i made from a 1/2"x .049 stainless tube and 3-2"x1/2" fender washing cut in half and bent in to a helical shape to fit in the 2" tail pipe and welded to the 1/2" tube staggered every 2.5". The bike runs pretty good with nice torque with the carb jetted with and 155 main and a 57.5 pilot and the needle up 1mm from stock. However I'm not really happy with the sound, the loudness is right where i would like it but there is still a raspy spitting sound when i roll on the throttle which i don't like.

I can't answer your question; sounds to me like something you'll need to experiment with for a bit.
But I did want to say WOW! That looks slick! You do nice work. I'm sure you'll figure out the right sound in time.
Cheers!
