If you don't accelerate your bike hard alot, is that likely to lenghten the life of your cam chain,and allow you to postpone doing the tensioner change? Thanks!

bill lengthens the life of his cam chain by not starting it.

Beyond that, can't tell what will do it.

I dont see acceleration or MPH as a factor. I see ride length as the single most crucial element in the equation.

Thanks JOG . I was reading some of the posts in the tensioner section ,and some guys had theirs checked at 13k and it wasn't that bad . I'm just curious,and thinking ahead . Thanks!

So,.. if you want to get a lot of miles out of your cam chain,...

Nope, heat/cool cycles let the tensioner grab a tooth on the ratchet, long trips give more miles per heat cool cycle.

Check it, note miles, measure it carefully, check it later, note miles, measure carefully., Then you can calculate an approximate " Dead on" date.

think he's up to 50 now. :-?
