Title: My $25 investment

Would you give $25 over the phone with just a photo. I gave the guy my word and he held it on CL. No engine, chain, and needed a tube for one tire. I have pleather and foam for seat.  I HATE changing tires! WIth a HF Predator at $114 shipped, I'm up to $147. Will have to use 2x8 to mount engine. Slots are made for a Robyn/Subaru. No problem.

HF Predator 212cc 6.5 hp. Cranked on third pull, because I didn't have switch turned on for first two pulls.  :-[

Fun stuff, tee hee!!  I have also wanted one of those, from a young age. Had dreams of living near a beach, cutting donuts in the sand, haha.  Motorcycles always seemed more available, street legal, took up less space, and I could always pass them off as a practical "gas saver" or something.

But I still think go karts are funner to drive than motorcycles.

Had a cart as a kid, and they are super fun.   With your butt just a few inches off the ground, 30mph feels like 60.   I've always thot about building a more serious version with a 250cc or bigger motorcycle engine.  In fact, a year or so ago I gave away (to a friend's HS kid) a Datsun B210 with a tiny 4 banger that was rated at 65hp.   And yes, before giving it away, I seriously considered a cart conversion - LOL.

About 1978 or so, one of the kids in my neighborhood hooked up a 175cc two-stroke motorcycle engine to a go cart.. heh hehe that thing would fly.  He'd slide it around corners and of course outpace anything the other kids had to ride.. MAN we were green with envy.   ;D

I'd a settled for a 5hp lawnmower engined one.

We had one in the summer of '07.  Had a VW motor, I can't remember specifics, but we had alot of fun with it that summer.  My boys took it in some very deep mud holes.  But we eventually figured out we didn't have enough time to enjoy it, so we sold it.  Now I wish I still had it.  Would be fun to have at our camp now, which we didn't have at the time.  But it was a blast!  Enjoy your great find!

Brought it home something like this

Stripped and painted it yellow:

Nice score. I remember going to my Dad's friend's house in Idaho, the go cart there ran a KZ900 police bike engine. Talk about a fast cart.

A go kart with suspension & a 4 speed might not be a go kart so much as a dune buggy,

Ahhh, the go cart / dune buggy threshold.   When do you cross that line?

I had one like Babyhog's for awhile, but it ran a 392 industrial hooked to a 911 transaxle. Porsche (beefed up VW) transaxles don't hold up well with a Hemi hooked to them... Scattered that old sand rail over half of Florence Oregon's dunes one weekend.

Boys and girls, I've had two deaths in my family, plus it's going to be 95 degrees tomorrow, so it's not done yet. If we don't get attached to it it's going on CL when it's ready.

My BIL used to race sprint karts, in fact he won the Grand National title one year. Once a year he would take it to Mosport and race it with the enduros. I went one year and had the opportunity to run it around the track a couple of times. My lap times sucked but running down the straitaway I must have got it up to 60 or 70, and you are right- having your a$$ that close to the ground really amplifies the sensation of speed.
I had a ride in a car once going 160, but there was no comparison to that kart ride. :o

My sympathies to you and your family.  Wish I could give you a big hug.

It'll all work out eventually. When people in their 80s die, you worry more about the spouse. My mom's sister was married for 66 years. Went to visit her husband today. He's 91 and sharp. Two hours well spent. For me and him.  :)
