Title: In praise of the verslavy
Post by Nick Z on 06/18/12 at 12:13:38

my 87 savage (my only ride) started rattling like the world was coming to an end. The odometer says about 8,500 miles but I have no idea if it's accurate, since it's exempt. I got it in January and have put on about 1,500+ miles myself.

Sounded just like this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSKo7qQH3hE

Ordered a VerSlavy and had it in hand within a few days. Opening the cover up was pretty easy - I'm not much of a mechanic, but I didn't have much trouble figuring out what I was doing.

The plunger was at 21.4mm (yikes!!!) - I guess I caught it just in the nick of time. Super easy to take the old tensioner out and put in the verslavy. Great worksmanship and my favorite part was that it had my initials on it  8-) (probably to keep straight whose is whose, but whatever - I thought it was cool!)

Put everything back together, added oil, started her up....and she sounds like a motorcycle again. I won't be embarrassed to ride her anymore.

I was thinking that as well.  but if you look at the casting numbers on the Jug you will see the pics have been mirror imaged, that's why it looks bass ackwards.

Yes, I have a rare one-of-a-kind Suzuki Savage 056 SL. everything is backwards...makes it a real pita to get parts!  ;)

All kidding aside, my real camera is at the girlfriend's place right now, so I was stuck using the webcam on my laptop. It makes everything backwards - I'll flip them to make things less confusing.

When buying a bike I was going to cross this little guy off my list.
Then finding out about verslagen's fix put my mind at ease. That and folks like you who say it a pretty easy fix.
So later on I will join the list of happy customers.  :)
I hope suzuki gave him a medal.

OK, this is off the subject, but every time I listen to that video, I can't hear anything out of the ordinary!

Man, I need to get me some new ears one of these days!   >:(

I've got 2,500 miles on my 06 S40. With a full-face helmet and diminished hearing, give me some idea as to when I should be considering this upgrade.  The engine sounds the same to me as it did 1,700 miles ago when it arrived last September.

Well, I guess it COULD have something to do with over 4500 hours in military fighter and fighter-type jets.....  ;)
