Title: gas varnish
Post by Bubba on 06/18/12 at 12:03:24

I'd like your opinions....
If I have some gas varnish in a tank can I just add new gas to it, let it sit for a few days and then drain out the gas. Will that actually dissolve the varnish?
I don't want to necessarily add phosporic acid to it since I don't really think that there is much rust.
Thanks!

I'd drain it... then run about a half gallon of clean through,.. then button up and fill with fresh...
If you got any ants.. dump the sucky gas on them,.. or pour it in your cage gas tank and let it get diluted in ten or more gallons...
JMHO...

I've heard acetone works but if I can get away with fresh gas that would be cheaper

It would not hurt to try some gas - in fact if you can get Avgas 100LL I think it would do a better job of cleaning than pump gas.  If that doesn't clean it up try the carb cleaner that you use to soak carbs in.  Mosts auto stores sell quart or gallon containers of it.

360 down here in the South they're not crabs--they're "Bloomer Quail".
