Title: Stupid Rain!
Post by clearush on 06/16/12 at 12:07:07

Been almost bone dry all week and my day off going to do a cam chain swap out and it starts pouring down soaking the ground under my carport so I can't do a darn thing
>:( . Can't even ride either  :(

Of course, you realize that you made it rain?   You see, by thinking about the cam chain change all week, you flagged the attention of the rain gods, who are now laughing hysterically at their prank.  It's best not to think of stuff too much, and just do it when the time comes.

I bought a motorcycle one time during the summer, and it caused a rare rainstorm that lasted a month.

Can't ride in the rain? You just need something you don't mind letting get wet. Keep the chain lubed and the cables oiled and forget the rest.

Can't ride???? Come on now!  I rode to work this morning through a deluge! I'm talking 4-5" per hour downpours!!!! I never got out of rain for the full 40 miles to work.

The really bad part is that the weather forecast called for "very slight chance of scattered showers" :o. I wouldn't leave the house if that rainfall was predicted mind you!

Do Not Ride in Stupid Rain. If its near as devastating as an Ugly Stick, Stupid Rain will ruin your life. the upside is, youll be too stupid to know it,.l

Well I lucked out and the weather cleared up by noon and it was dry enough to start in around 2ish. Only took me 7-1/2 hours  :)

Bad part was the head cover 115mm and 125mm bolts were missing and had 1/4" 20 threaded rods sticking up out of the bolt holes not even a nut or anything to hold down the head cover.  :P
No issues putting everything back together even went to the hardware store and found some 5" and 5-1/2" 1/4 bolts to replace the threaded rod with. Until I hit the 130mm head bolt  :'( seems like it was previously over torqued to the point of pulling the threads when I tighted it up.  >:(   I went ahead and put everything back together so I could turn it over. She idles fine but as expected there was a gusher of oil from the 130mm bolt.

Tommorow I will see if there is anything left down at the bottom to thread a new bolt into, might have to try the 1/4" bolt trick on that one also  :P if there is enough to thread into.

As for riding in the rain....not by choice  ::)   and I was watching my kids while the wife was out so I couldn't go anyways  :D even if it wasn't raining.

I was getting ready to paint some trailer motorcycle ramps and put the hardener in the paint, and then got the sawhorses out and everything ready....then the rain came. >:(

I had to pack everything up and haul it down to the office to paint it indoors.  We were not really supposed to have rain until the afternoon....and I thought I could get lucky!  I just put the first coat of paint on and am waiting for it to tack up.....and it hasn't rained since I got here.

Well three extra hours and and some patience and everything is buttoned up replaced stripped out metric head cover bolts. Engine runs fine so success on the cam chain change and now the head cover isn't leaking oil so its all good  :D

I can tell you thru numero personal experiences, when on a ride and it starts raining, it absolutely won't stop until you get off the bike and put your rain suit on.     >:(
