Title: Harley 883 iron pipes
Post by Scott.aust on 06/15/12 at 16:41:53

I have read the treads about what HD mufflers will fit but being in Australia the choices and prices are far more limited than you have. On eBay in my local area is a set of mufflers taken off a brand new 883 Iron for $50. Any idea if one of these will fit without too much trouble  ??

Sure they'll fit...  rail mount is easiest,.. but mine is tab mount (you'll have to drill a hole, maybe bend the tab with a mallet...
Look at the mount...  you can fit any of them,.. if you are just a tidge creative... ;)...

PS... make sure the original owner hasn't knocked the baffle plates out... Or they'll be way too loud...

I'm debating on getting them myself, a guy has a used set for $65 by me.

Cavi Mike - yes the ones in that pic.

Serowbot - they are brand new and not modified, done 5 miles from the dealer to the workshop that put new aftermarket pipes on. After i wrote the post i thought to myself i bet someone says something like you can make anything fit with a FBH !  I can be VERY creative and since I will get 2 of them I can play ( hack up/ destroy) one if I really needed to. Just wondered if anyone had experience with this particular model.

that looks like the kind I just put on my bike, I used a ryca muffler bracket to mount mine ( didn't feel like making a bracket).  just use a metal bar bolted to the original bracket with it coming out the front enough (towards the header pipe) to bolt the muffler to it. The bolt holes on the muffler are to far forward to bolt to the original bracket if you mount it directly to the header pipe. you either need to make an adapter to move the muffler back so you can bolt to the bracket or make a bracket that bolts to the muffler and the original bracket, you can do it with a hack saw a hand drill with a hardware store piece of metal bar.

one of my weaknesses is buying tools, if i need something even for one use i go and buy a quality one so i have a shed full of tools. welders, a drill press, pipe bender, grinders etc etc. i could make something up. i have put a bid on them so see if i get them and have a play to make it fit.

That's interesting, one of my weaknesses is NOT buying tools. If I can use my neighbors ladder or my other neighbors trimmers or my other neighbors wife...

OK I was kidding about that last part but only recently have I decided to stop borrowing everyone's stuff. I decided to go all out this time and buy a new tig. Best thing I could have ever done. No more dragging everything to work.

Borrowing the neighbours wife usually ends up with different tools being needed,  Xray Machine.......

Well I won them ! So I guess it will be some modifying for me! One good thing is they are brand new, come with all the bolts and clamps and even the chrome header pipe covers so I have 2 of everything to play with.

Good! That means you can completely screw it up once & still be okay.,
Got a good T-bolt clamp?
