Title: Starts cold with no choke....
Post by Dave Sisk on 06/13/12 at 19:12:40

I *think* that's a clue that it's probably running a little on the rich side...correct, or not necessarily?  I haven't torn into mine to check the plug, but I'm wondering if it was already re-jetted by the previous owner.  It seems to backfire a little more frequently when the humidity is higher.

I'm certainly pleased that it starts right up with no choke and just 2-3 spins of the starter.  :)  So, just curious...

Possibly a bit rich... but probably nothing to worry about...
Popping on humid days, is a rich pop... this is actually a good sign, because it means you are jetted very well for regular days...

Unless you like riding in the rain ... :-?...

Yup, that's what I figured.  I'm planning on grabbing a Jardine from one of our members...since it's already running on the rich side, I'm wondering if I'll need to re-jet or merely adjust the fuel/air mixture a little.  It's running slightly rich with 4 - 1/2" holes drilled in the stock exhaust...I'm guessing it may have already been re-jetted by the previous owner.  Regardless, I guess I'll see when I try it.  ;)

When I rejetted mine I went a little too rich. Required no choke to start even on 50 degree days. My plug reflected a rich condition. I added a K&N cone with only adjusting the mixture screw and she is where she needs to be. Takes about quarter choke to start and I can take it off and run smoothly in under a minute.

I've come to find that on mine no matter where you adjust it, if the weather changes there are going to be pops. If you get that unusual day where it runs mostly without pops and its between 60-90 degrees I think you got the right chemistry.  8-)
