Title: New Engine
Post by YoungSavage on 06/13/12 at 11:08:49

Hey all,

I just have a hypothetical question here. Could someone in fact put a parallel twin in the Savage frame? I know you would have to change almost everything, but my curiousity peaked when I thought about it. Thank you!

Because, as you say, almost everything would have to be changed, the answer is YES. You can do whatever you want; the question is what would you do, and Why?
It's a pretty slim and not super strong frame, so you wouldn't want anything to beefy in there.
Did you have an engine in mind?
I think for a lot of us here, that big fat 650 single is the best part of the Savage... it's the engine we love. I wouldn't trade that part for anything else...

That's the main reason why I got one, for the single cylinder. If I wanted a twin I would get an old Triumph or something.

I didn't really have an engine in mind, but was just more curious. I see the parallel twins and just wonder if one could swap one in. As with everyone else I too love the Large Single. It's definitely different and gives a good variety from the everyday v-twin 650's. My mom has a v-star 650 and a v-star 1100. I'm always curious why the 650 takes up as much space as it does when the displacement is still the same as my Savage. Thanks for the responses guys.

Hahahaha no, no family reunion, but that is a strange coincidence! She liked the price on the  650 so much she had to upgrade later on..
