Title: Clymer error on clutch wear limits?
Post by RycaShawn on 06/05/12 at 09:17:08

Do they have identified backwards the No 1 and No 2 clutch discs? I am measuring my No1 (single disc) and it seems to match the No 2 specs, and all my No 2 discs match the No 1 specs. Correct or am I the one that is backasswards?  :-?

Also, at the wear limits, does that create a clutch that slips or is it possible that it can still work past the thickness limits? Looking for answers based on experience...

Yes, they do have it backwards. (I fell into that trap already.)

Ha!   You ought to see the wiring diagrams in the shop manual.   I've found several outright errors.

Direct from an '86 SSM for a LS650.

OK, working from the clutch basket, item 14 (the round thingy that looks like someones crown)
Item 12 (aka plate 1, skinny plate) goes on 1st.  Followed by 4 others.
Then item 10 (aka plate 2, fat plate) goes on last.  And the wave washer sits inside it.

And checked it against an '86-'88 Clymer, and has them identified backwards in the exploded diagram.  Another documented error.
