Title: How was your ride today?
Post by martinfilms34 on 06/04/12 at 18:31:31

I haven't seen this yet so I thought that maybe we could start this.
In this topic everyone can talk about their ride/rides/commutes for the day. Include:
- Destination
- Length
- Problems
- Or any random information

Include any pictures that you have from the trip.

I'll Start it off with today 6/4/12

Rode with one of my friends to a Restaurant/Bar/Gatorfarm place, it was an awesome ride on backroads all the way through started about a three hour round trip, played some cornhole over all good day.
Only problem I had was my battery died cause I made a stupid mistake and left the ignition on, but hey you learn from mistakes haha. Had to push start the bike and all was well.

It's a game, in which you throw these bead filled sacks at a board the points to make it in the hole. A lot like horseshoes.

Yeah, it's called the "bag toss" up North, either way it sounds dirty.
Rode around town today, mainly just to run some errands and get the bike inspected and re-registered.  Turning onto my road on the way home I almost got run over by a lady in an SUV that wanted to turn from the inside lane right into the outside one.  Had to perform some evasive maneuvers and gun it out of the turn, but everyone was okay.  She stayed off my tail the rest of the way down the road  ;D, she looked pretty flustered after that though, maybe she'll pay more attention next time.

rode over to my mechanic's this morning to check on my daughters car. bad news all around there, but the ride was great, about 12 miles at 70 degrees and very low humidity with the sun shining. couldn't ask for it to be any nicer.

left there and into work........again.....destination bad. ride in good.

actually had no incidents with cages or teens......good morning all around.

looked at the speedo, i have 1200 miles in the saddle on her since i made the purchase on April 14.

I have been thinking of combining the cornhole gameboard.........with that plywood cutout of the lady bent over in the yard!  But the name I came up with might be a little bit too aggressive (Pornhole).

There's a fella down the road from my camp that makes the boards and sells them.  He always has some painted up in the yard... Football team logos, etc.  And some unpainted, DIY.  I'm getting all kinds of images in my head of what people might paint on them now!     8-) :o

Have been a little under the weather this past week, but was able to hop on the FleaFlicker and do an 80 mile ride this morning before it got too hot.  It was about 80 when I left the house at 9:00, and right at 100 when I pulled into the driveway a little after 12. (Lots of back roads, and a long stop for cold drink and butt rest about halfway.)

Hopefully, I will be able to get a longer ride in tomorrow, 160 miles or so, but I want to start a lot earlier, say 6:30.  In Tucson in the summer, you ride early, or you suffer.

Rode to school today and home.
Ride there, pretty good.
Ride home, not so good. Lightning storm, plus not having my rain jacket was no fun at all.

Very short ride today! I just got my 1996 Savage yesterday and can't get to the courthouse to transfer it until Thursday :'( . In the meantime I've switched the insurance from the Kawasaki KZ 440 LTD over to the Suzuki so no open roads for me right now! BUT.......since I live out in the boonies I can ride a couple of miles on the county road  ;D . I used that  small ride to get the handlebars and mirrors adjusted and get a bit of the feel of the scoot ;D ;D.

I had 2 new events on Tuesday.  It was the first time I rode a motorcycle to one of my City Council meetings (I am the City Engineer, Building Inspector & Zoning Administrator), and it was the first time I rode with my new RevIt jacket.

The ride home was nice.....I wasn't freezing like I normally am when I ride at night!

Like most... Thumper is a commuter ride:
From home to work is 9.5 miles
2 miles nice 4-lane blacktop... just woods posted 50mph
3 miles 5 lane small industry park and a cemetary posted 40 mph
2 miles 5 lane small retail but very bumpy posted 40 mph
2 miles 4 lane lots of state buildings DOT and such posted 35 mph

Pull into a secluded area under my building ...
 in the shade
fully covered (three bikes park there)
walk 40 feet to my office

LIFE IS GRAND on the bike!  :D

Otherwise I have to park nearly a 1/2 mile away in a stadium parking lot!   :-/

It was actually decent enough to get out today, rode to a cookout today, rained on the way back though, not to big of a deal at all though. I really want the weather to get better so I can get out and ride more

You should leave for work about 20 minutes earlier.

Whew, yesterday was warm.  100 F with 108 heat index.  Took a look at the oil temp gauge and she showed 110 C with 95 F ambient after riding 55-60 MPH for 45 minutes.  Later at 100F ambient, after riding 45 minutes at 55-60 and then stoplight to stoplight for 10 minutes, she showed 130 C.  I think that's suppose to be redlined for some bikes and probably is shearing long-chains in dino juice but I'm gonna trust my Amsoil 20w50 synthetic.  I'll keep an eye on her though.

In a word, fantastic. Took a ride after work through the Kentucky horse farms that are close by. Why didn't one of you guys tell me how great riding was 40 years ago?

Nice long Father's day ride yesterday  :)

153 Miles, Sunny, mid 80's, but Very Windy  :-?

Took a loop up around through the local mountains, which dumped me out into a barren valley. Would've been a much better ride without all the cross winds. Had a short 10 mile stretch of frontage road that was in dire need of repair  :o hit a couple of pot-holes doing 50+ that gave some serious pucker of the seat. Stopped for some petrol and continued on around the local reservoir though lots of potato country.

Longest individual ride that I have ever taken, and the bike ran perfectly. But I am going to have to figure out something with my saddlebags...they kept blowing open with the cross winds. (these bags are a velcro closure only, and it doesn't hold well enough)

Go to wal-mart and get some super velcro and replace yours or get one of the snap kits in the hobby section.

rode to work today, it is ride to work day today, after I ride home it'll be about 56 miles, testing out my video cam, need to edit some stuff together and I'll post something, it's a boring ride though, straight, 90 degree turn, straight, turn into parking lot. . .  maybe some music will help . . .

Today was my very first ride on my 03 savage, the weather was great.
I went just out getting the feel of the bike. Its a fun ride.
I keep forgetting to turn off my indicators, keep looking at my tach instead of my speedo, look for foot pegs that arnt there. (used to my old cb750). So I think I got the hang of this and go home early morning, in the late afternoon its time for me to go to work....battery is flat due to me leaving the parking lights on  :-[  Something else to get used to.

Saturday:

I taught my 14yo son how to ride the Savage.. he likes. Says its much easier that the standard tranny on the Tacoma I drive.  Next time out he wants to get out of first gear... Yeah I am slow to let him learn too fast.

I did a 30 mile trip to the BIG local bike shop. Bought some saddle bags and a little one to go over the sissy bar.  Great riding weather.
