Title: Which trail tech vapor kit?
Post by damiancds on 05/28/12 at 22:19:06

Hate to make a thread for this, but I also don't want to revive a 3 year old thread so...

I plan on getting one of the trail tech vapor computer thingies, and a question for anyone that's put one on their savage,

What kit do I get? I'm leaning toward the vapor 75-704 as it's for a conventional forks (vs inverted) and air cooled engines, but I'm not sure what the heck I'm doing anyway. (someone also mentioned in said dead thread, that one of the wires needed a resistor in it how can I make sure it has it?)

some pointers please?...

I would call VaporTech and lest them help you.....I am sure their tech help will know what to do.

I will probably be using one in the future - but I plan on getting the Vector model with the dashboard that includes indicator lights for turn signals, nuetral light, and high beam.  That way I can eliminate the speedometer and lights in the fuel tank.

Okay, so my instincts were correct the 75-704 is the correct kit, which is now installed. I do have a few more questions though,

For my engine temp, on a 1/2 mile ride it stated the max temp was 313*f which is really high considering it hadnt been running long or sitting.

Also, how fo i set the rpms, pulses, and pulses per revolution?

I have a Vapor.  Set the PPR to 1, the pulses to 0000.  The only RPM things I can think of are the Shift1 and Shift2 lights.  I have mine set to 5000 and 6500 (and I don't use them for shifting)
I don't use an external temp sensor.

Yes......give us a review after you have ridden with it a while.  I know the digital dash on my Kawasaki Super Sherpa works great, and I can read it it in daylight or at night easily - however the bright headlight indicator is too bright and is annoying.  I am curious how easy the VaporTeck is to read.

Just the link on the dragon trail.  Nothing on the Vapor that I can find/recall.

woops.. my bad.  I PM'd them to someone else.

Anyway.  for the curious:

Here is a picture just after it was installed.  I was a bit hard to see in bright daylight, so I added a shield (made out of black plastic plates cut up) to go over the top.
Check out the reading on the odometer.  That bike now has 81,000+ miles on it, and the VaporTech is still working fine.
If you do go with it, do what I did and put one of those UV Screen Protector sheets over the display.  The original sheet finally fogged up enough to make me replace it this year.  The display still looks like new.

Here it is at night (yes, it is illuminated).  You can sorta see the shield I put on.

I got it for about $105 with a discount from motorcycle superstore.

So far, I like it, though its only been on the bike for maybe 3 days and no serious riding has occurred. The quality seems good enough, I know I have to redo the tach wire and figure out where I want the other wires permanently routed, but that was pretty much a given. I'm also not impressed with the size of the power wire, I feel it should have been a thicker gauge.

The mount sucks though (I don't like it not being centered, and I don't like pushing the buttons with it only fastened on one side of the computer), I plan on redoing that after my road test when I have free time for it.

well, I can't figure out how to do two attachments per post so the mounts going in the next post.

Underneath pic of the mount...

Also, I had to tape my bar because the two bar clamps they supplied were either to small or way to big.
