Title: Memorial Day
Post by WebsterMark on 05/28/12 at 05:31:27

Greetings to all those who have served the Nation as we honor those who have passed.

My daughter and I are continuing our tradition of picking out, researching and taking photos of a gravesite or two of Medal of Honor winner who are buried at nearby Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. There are 7 total. Today we visit Lorenzo Immell awarded the medal for his actions during the Battle of Wilson’s Creek and Alonzo Stokes for action during the Indian Campaigns, specifically Battle of Little Wichita Creek.  We’re also going to visit the grave of Lt. Meehan. Any Band of Brother fans might recognize him as the original commander of Easy Company and his plan went down over Normandy on D-Day.
Anyone near a National Cemetery might want to try something like this. It’s educational and a great way to pass along the tradition that freedom isn’t free.
