Title: Waddaya Think ?
Post by Denise on 05/22/12 at 08:12:55

after discovering yesterday that my fuel tank is rusted out I did a JB weld repair and a quicky paint job to check out what subdued flames would look like, Repairing the tank also gives me some ride time while I wait for an Ebay tank to arrive. Anyway, Cant decide if I like the flames or not.
What do you think, Leave em or lose em?

Flames look good, but I have a question: Why did you omit the cross brace on the forward controls?

I hate flames; they almost always look cheesy... ALMOST.
These actually look great, and really do compliment the bike you have. Simple and subtle works best. Nice job!

I like the flames cause they're there but don't stick out to much, also the only comment I'd say on the ride is lOse the belt guard. I think it would fit the look of your bike pretty good

Yep, I think this look is starting to grow on me so I'll probably do the other tank the same when it gets here, Thanks for the opinions !

Next time I have the back wheel off I'll take the belt guard off and see what it looks like, Why they put the shock bolt in from the inside is beyond me.

Some people like flames, some don't.  Yours look fine to me.

The bolt hole on the belt guard (I'm at a loss for the proper terminology...) slips in, so you don't have to completely remove the bolt.  You do have to take one screw out completely where it attaches in the front.  And there is one bracket in the center of the guard where its connected that you have to remove.  That's it, I think.
Having said that, I like the guard and think yours looks fine with it.

What's your rear fender?

Thanks for that bit of info, I'll take it off for a day or so and see which way I like it, its not ugly to me but who knows.
The fender I found at a local junk store in a pile of Misc parts , I believe Montesa , Penton , Bultaco, and BSA all used Aluminum fenders in the 60's/70's , I did cut the frame behind the shocks and bent the supports down to get the right seat angle which also made the fender arch fit.

Keep 'em, I like the subtle approach - do the same thing with that rear fender.

It is completely preference of course, just giving my two cents! Im a simple kinda guy so im trying to lose some of the unnecessary parts on my bike, your bike does look good with the belt guard, but theres no harm in taking it off and seeing how it looks. That being said you don't have to take the rear wheel off to remove the belt guard.

check out the section about the belt guard here if you decide to try and remove it!

Also, where did you get your rear fender from? Im really likin it!

Check response # 10 in this thread, there is more to the look of the fender than just the fender

Leave em, the flames look great! I always wanted flames and now that I am building a bike I cant bring muself to actually put flames on it. Yours look killer though and I think that your new tank should get the same treatment. my 2 cents
