In a car, yes... on our bike, not really...

Wouldn't it maybe keep you from burning your leg or burning a hole in your shoe?   ;D

I've got some on my pipe and they don't make a huge difference unless you're sitting at a long stop light or in traffic, they help a little.  Before them I could feel some warmth on my sneakers but with them I rarely feel anything at all.

They smoke and stink pretty bad the first two or three start ups though.. and if you ever take it off the chrome underneath needs a SERIOUS cleaning it looks terrible underneath once removed.

I was thinking about wrapping mine, but read that you shouldn't if the bike leaks because of the build up of oil can cause some problems. Is this true?

Could you correct the spelling in your title to the correct "Wrapped Pipes"?  My mind is wandering to places it should not go.

Isn't wRaped Pipes a little too suggestive for you?   I mean, that hole in the middle of the muffler is HOT, real hot.  The header is even hotter.

====================

If you wear polyester blend pants, wrapping your header and the start of your muffler with two layers of wrap will greatly reduce the number of ruined pants you generate in the course of a year.

Not stop it completely though, the heat soaks through the wrap at long stop lights, etc and it can still melt the material.

I wrapped my pipe for safety reasons. Like Oldfeller said, helps prevent melted pants
