Title: will a K761 130/80-18 rear tire fit?
Post by thomasoconnor19 on 05/19/12 at 18:44:25

I am installing 130mm shocks on my Savage and going to a 18" rear rim.
I am wondering if anyone knows if a Kenda K761 rear tire in a 130/80 size will fit?

I know the K671 CS-1 tire that is 130/70 will fit, but the Firestone Deluxe Champions that some people install require the swingarm mod.
If my math is correct....the 130/80 will be 13mm bigger than a 130/70 and will probably rub the swingarm?

Would anyone with a cs1 be able to meausre the room between the tire and swingarm brace, or take some pictures?

HEY THOMAS,
I can't help with measurements, but if you do end up having to modify the swingarm, it's really very simple. Check out this guys blog; scroll down a bit, he has a great picture that shows exactly how to do it...

Yeah I know how to do it, but I currently don't have a welder/garage.
I really really want to run these K761 tires though, so maybe I will just have to figure out where to do the work in order for them to fit.

The stock IRC is a 140/80-15 and measures 23" tall without air in it.  The stock tire with air in it clears the swing arm by 1" on my bike with only 300 miles on it - so I would assume the belt is as short as it ever was and has never been adjusted rearward to take out any slack.

I just ordered and received a Pirelli Sport Demon in a 130/70-18 and it measures 24" tall without air in it.

Based on the above - I am assuming my new 130/70-18 will only have about 1/2 inch between the tire and front of the swing arm.  Suprisingly both the original 140/80-15 IRC and the 130/70-18 Pirelli have about the same 5" of width - however the Pirelli may get a bit narrower when mounted on the rim and inflated.  I could have ordered a 140/70-18 Pirelli....but just didn't know if it would fit and I didn't think an extra 3/8" width was worth the risk.

My guess is that a 130/80-18 will be a very tight fit - but the only way to know for sure is get someone who actually has mounted one.

Ryan from Ryca was VERY helpful with trying to help me figure out what will fit my bike.
a K761 130/80-18 will definitely hit the swing arm. The tire they used for their scrambler build is a 110/80-18 and clears the stock swing arm without a problem.

He said that a 120/80-18 fits, but only with 1-2 mm of clearance. I will most likely be taking a risk and picking up the 120/80-18 and hoping that mine clears....if it does hit the swing arm, it will be very minimal and I should be able to grind the weld/metal down hopefully.

I'd like to have the bigger 120 tire....but I can always go to the 110 tire if I run into any real swing arm clearance problems.

Beware, I put a 150/90-15 on mine and had 3 or 4 millimeters to the front of the swingarm.  When I got above 60mph, the tire expanded enough that it rubbed.  I was in luck when I went to grind the weld, as the factory weld was about 3/8" high. :-?

Wow that's a great point...maybe I will just play it safe and get the 110/80-18 like what Ryca offers...

Where did you get the 18" rim? Ryca do it for you?

I am buying it from Ryca, and having it laced locally.

Looking to pick out my rear tire today. Anyone else have any insight on what size I should go with? I will settle with a 110/80-18, but would rather have the bigger 120/80-18. Someone from Kenda confirmed that the K761 in 120/80-18 outside diameter is 25.49".
Could anyone with a Ryca with the 671 cruiser tire installed measure that gap between the tire and swingarm brace?

Also looking at the Avon AM44 tire, but they have an OD of 26.2", so I might have to settle for a 110/80-18.

Or the Shinkho 705 SERIES...still trying to find the OD.

Bump.....still have not settled on tires yet.
Could anyone with a ryca kit and the 130/70-18 k671 measure the gap between the tire and swing arm brace?

The 120/80-18 k761 dualsport that I want has an OD of 25.49", .2" bigger than the 130/70-18 k671 cruiser that fits fine.
