Title: Rattling noise and oil leak
Post by rogers40 on 05/16/12 at 15:36:39

Hey Guys,
So I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 2006 Savage with almost 10k miles on it.  I've only ridden it for about a week, and it's been great!

I've noticed a rattling noise coming from the right side of the bike in the last week.  It comes and goes, but I've heard it under power, as well as at a stop.  I've also noticed a small pool of oil on the engine, in front of where the choke is located.  I can't see where the oil is coming from, but it's from the top of the engine somewhere.

So I wanted to ask if these are serious enough for me to take it to a shop to have them check it out, or is this normal?  I just bought the bike, so I'm kinda low on funds, and would rather not have the bike sit in the shop when the weather is good.

Also, any recommendations for a bike shop in the SF Peninsula would be appreciated.  Thanks!  8-)

I would recommend you STOP and do a cam chain check immediately.

pool of oil most likely from the head plug, can be fixed with RTV.

IDK what ya paid for the bike, but a trip to the shop for a cam chain & whatever else theyll try to stack on wont make ya happy, If its cam chain time, & it sure mite be, you can do it, unless you wear slip ons cuz ya cant tie yer shewzzz,,

Thanks guys, I guess it's time to take out the wrench on the bike already.
