Title: Adapt passenger back rest for driver Post by Greg on 05/14/12 at 18:06:39 Has anyone adapted the passenger back rest to work for the driver? I would love to have a back rest but really don't want to spend a lot of money. If there are photos of the work, that would be awesome! |

I have a Protac driver backrest (www.protac.net) It came with my bike, so I don't know how much they cost, but it doesn't look that difficult, if you are handy (which I assume you are if you want to do something with the passenger one). Its just round tubing/stock that holds the pad. If you have time to bail, you have time to brake. Or is there another scenario that doesn't fit in the above? |

Pretty much saved him from landing on the hood of the car and possibly the windshield. Although I would like to hear from him how his back was after the impact. And my own rear ender with a truck, which pancaked me on the grill fortunately. If I had the box on the back, I may have been able to hang on. |

The driver was thrown clear. He was walking with a limp. She left on a helicopter not expected to live. This type of discussion will go on forever. Just like full face helmets can break your neck if you land on the pavement the right way or seat belts in cars can kill you if the planets are in alignment. Weigh the risks and make a decision. I don't think any decision is right or wrong. |

There was no sissy bar. The passenger, Kyle, went strait through the windshield, the car, and the rear window and was killed instantly. The driver, Glenn, was thrown backwards over the car and spent 2 months recuperating. If there had been a sissy bar, Kyle would have probably survived. |
