I was told that the engine on motorcycles also have the VIN on the engine block as well as on the forks. I have been looking at my savage and I found a number that does not relate to the VIN it looks more like a serial number. So where is this mysterious VIN?

vin is on the head tube, engine has a different s/n

cali dmv keeps a record of both.
