Just changed the oil for the first time on my '07...I know, I prolly should have just changed it when I got it, but it had less than 2k on it.

Anyway, before the oil change, with the bike OFF, and with the bike in 1st gear, pulling the clutch in, the bike could easily be rolled forwards or backwards with my feet.

After the oil change, it is MUCH harder to do this. Putting the bike in neutral, or when the bike is running and in a gear rolling the bike around is no problem.

Does this sound normal?

The only logical explanation I can think of.....is that the new oil is a higher viscosity (thicker) than the oil that was in it before the change.

What Brand and viscosity rating of oil did you use?

Just regular Valvoline 10W-40 motorcycle oil.

The old oil may have been seriously finished,,or thinner who knows,,
You hear anything grinding?

YOu did get the filter in with the hole to the inside, right?

Not that that would cause it to roll different.

Yes, definitely got the filter in right. I've seen the aftermath when you don't. :)

The bike has a wet clutch I believe, so different oils will affect the clutch discs differently.

Regular oil is fine, just stay away from any with detergents in them. They will mess with the clutch discs.

Without knowing what you had in there before you can just note how it reacts to the oils you know of.

Ummm, and if the old oil did smell of fuel as you stated earlier, you should probably check out the petcock because you may be bleeding fuel into the cylinder and contaminating the oil.

There's a thread in the Tech Ref section for checking the petcock that may help.

How does the clutch disengage after oil change than before ?
If it is disengaging fine, no excessive gear clatter when shifting 1st,..... then all is good now.
But there is a lesson in there,.......change oil sooner rather than later, especially when you didn't have any idea what was in it, or how much use or abuse it had been subjected to.
