Perhaps most people are not as envious/annoyed as I am that Zuckerberg has earned that much money at such a young age, and by the impish look on his face, clearly needs a severe beating. Thereabouts the "Myspace" era, I set up a forum kind of like this one just for my family and friends. It had good privacy, attachment uploads, photo gallery, etc.. all the goddamm 'book' one could possibly want to stick their face on. It didn't matter. The sheer size of Facebook and the easy connectivity (non-privacy) is what people want. Facebook hit just the right balance that most people want.. enough to get their membership large enough to snowball and take users away from large sites like Myspace all the way down to my dinky little forum. They hit the right balance of privacy (or at least appearance of privacy) and easy point-and-click friendmaking. That is why it is so successful. If they're smart, they are now making large political contributions to both parties, so that the occasional kidnapping story doesn't get blown up in the media. |

Facebook has it's issues, which is why I don't use it for much anymore. Really, it is just an easy way of contacting a lot of "half-friends" that I can't always keep up with. I don't buy into the hole status thing, or posting vacation pictures, or "liking" things. However, my generation seemed to have picked it as the primary means of communications, and it does make organizing events very easy, so I keep my account to stay on top of parties and the friends that moved off after college and to be privy to all those hip functions/outings. |

Spare time, I spend here. I've considered it, but I guess my primary reason initially for staying away from it was my husband didn't want me to. (didn't want old boyfriends to be able to find me, I guess lol) Easier to just stay away from it and keep him happy than to argue. Not worth it. I have a Windows smartphone and integration with FB and a few others is tremendous on this phone, but I still don't use it. Another thing... if you are job hunting... employers are now using it to "check people out". Don't say anything or post anything on your page that you wouldn't want a prospective employer to know. I know someone who was close to hiring a gal until they looked at her FB and saw a pic of her smoking a joint, raving about being a party girl, blah, blah. Figured she'd miss alot of work. May be inaccurate, but the impression was bad enough to choose someone else. |

I'm never on it, even though it is the only way to find out what is going on with my triplet nieces. Who are almost a year and a half old. Who I have never seen in person. Even though I lived a whopping 9 miles (maybe) from my brother and his wife (who doesn't approve of me, I ride motorcycles, smoke and am a naturist). Didn't like the people I went to school with when I was in school with them (with a few exceptions). Don't have time for over half the forums I belong to. Town job + farming + trying to restart my bike shop = absolutely no free time. I'm actually supposed to be building tomato cages right now... ::) |

Some friends and family would post stuff that was in my opinion quite embarrassing. Rather than deal with the whole un friending thing, I just opted out. I am sure what was in the account is still on the net somewhere for all to see. It's not that they are bad people, I still stay in contact, it's that they don't realize what ever you post on Facebook, or on the Internet in general, can come back and haunt you when you least expect it. |

I disallow any apps that pry into my privacy and if work every demanded my password for facebook, "I" wouldn't have a facebook account. besides, they don't need my password to see it. I don't know how any one of them have gotten away with this. |
