Seems like it's one problem after another with this bike.

Finally got it running great with the new jets from lancer, and now, after a nice long ride yesterday.. oil leak.

Couldn't point out where it was coming from until this morning and then I realized it was from the oil drain plug/bolt D:< and the bolt will not tighten.. it will get kind of tight.. no real pressure is required to take it off.. but if I continue to try tightening it it just starts over and seems to get loose again.. and does that endlessly.

Ruined the threads? or is this common with the savage? I was prepared to take the engine apart and use that $5 plug/cap I read about in a couple posts cause thats where I thought the oil was coming from haha

Thats the first stripped oil plug Ive heard of, I just cant tell you how hard that must have been,,Drain the oil, look at the threads on the plug & HOPE theyre messed up.

If it is just bad threads on the plug, get a new one. If the threads are stripped on the engine side, I don't know. For cars they have over-sized self-tapping oil plugs to repair the pan. Perhaps there is something similar to that or a helicoil for the motorcycle that would work.

No idea when it could have happened >.< Gave the bike it's first oil change and it was that way.

Hopefully it is just the bolt though. Probably wouldn't hurt to order a magnetic one anyways. Thanks :)

Okay... is there a certain way to tell if it's the bolt?

I drained the oil and the bolt looks fine (unfortunately)

It does not stand up straight though when put on the screw end.. it leans over a pretty good amount.

Does anyone know of a cheaper magnetic plug for the savage? $15 for one bolt seems slightly much. Also, since it's getting tight up until the VERY end and then getting loose again when im putting the plug back in.. could adding an additional washer fix that??

Okay so we just slapped another washer on the bolt and it tightened right up.
Before I put new oil in.. is there a reason I will regret doing that 5 miles down the road?
Effect on oil pressure? Not going to hold against vibration? Anything?

$15 seems on par.
I paid 12.99 for mine for my car.
Odds are the threads in the case are stripped if the bolt looks fine. In a battle of steel vs aluminum the steel usually wins. Adding a washer would push the effective threads out further so they would sit in the damaged area.

Well... everything I can get with a camera APPEARS normal.. except the bolt not standing up straight.. it leans a bit.

So.. using washers is.. a bad idea? What are the alternatives? Is their a way to rethread the engine lol???

If you had a long bolt with the same thread,You could hold it straight and try to screw it in.It might clean up the threads.

Okay so I just went back out to check on it (after putting the bolt in with another washer on it, and it WAS perfectly tight) and more oil left over, I guess we didnt drain it all the way because at least another cup or two poured out, along with the bolt loose enough to take out with my fingers...

I don't think we have a bolt sized enough to try cleaning up the threads unfortunately.. heres some pics of the current bolt..

Sorry if they aren't detailed or good.. all I have is an iphone and I can't get a pic of the threads on the inside of the engine.

Lucky for you... that's not the stock bolt.
that sucker is twice as long.

Buy the mag plug, it's as long as stock.

Thats both a relief and an irritation lol.

Please tell it's not possible the bolt broke off INSIDE the engine.. cause aside from the tiny oil leak it had it ran like a champ lol.

I would go to a motorcycle dealer with that plug,I'm sure any dealer will have one that will work or even a auto store.

... but that one ain't the right size... buying another one it, ain't gonna' help...
It might even be SAE instead of metric... and that's why it spun...

A Suzuki dealer would know what plug to use,I don.t know but they all Suzuki's might be the same.

You want a magnetic plug? Get one online, all ya gotta tell them is what kinda bike it is,Youll get a plug that fits & has a magnet, too,,

I went off another thread and ordered a Magnetic one, if that doesn't work does anyone want this bike lol? Its beginning to be a lemon and I'm gonna end up tossing it down a hill lol.

I have like 50 different drain plugs, I can check to see if i have the right size of one like the savage and mail it to you!
