Title: Fuse blow? Bike won't start after turn signal mod. Post by blackhalo on 05/07/12 at 09:57:31 Hey guys, I'm trying to hack some aftermarket turn signals onto my bike (running lights)... I figured that I could buy dual-filament signals and just wire the black into the running lights... kinda worked. First try, the running lights were active and almost perfect... but the turn signal would weakly flash a few times and then stop... and the dash indicator would stay lit the entire time as well (no flashing). So I stepped back and just tried the signal without the running light (black/ground - red/signal)... this worked great, signal worked nicely and was bright... but no running lights. So I (foolishly) took the next step and grounded the signals black wire AND attached it to the running light wire... nothing happened, like nothing at all... and now I have no power, caput. I'm about to dig into the fuse box and try to fix... but I figured I would throw this situation on the forum, see if anyone can advise... on both the power loss, and the dual-filament setup?? The running lights / signals almost work... but any ideas why they only flash a few times? |

I like having a test lite, too.,handy & cheap, you otta have both, Fuses are under the seat, under your right thigh. Dont even have to pull the seat, little white box about the size of a thumb,okay, a fat, blocky thumb. Maybe unhook everything youve done, strart over, hook up one lite & see how it acts. |

Bike won't start after turn signal Post by verslagen1 on 05/07/12 at 10:24:11 How many wires have the signals? 2 wire, 1 is signal, other is running, frame is ground. 3 wire conforms to suzuki standard wiring. weak signal and slow flash maybe due to running the signal and running in series, same circuit, too much resistance. |

So close, yet so far... it works, just doesn't work properly, no idea why. I'm familiar with the wiring, I've torn it down and labelled everything in the past... I just painted the back-end and I'm trying to finish it up now (with running lights)... but this last issue is beyond my electrical abilities... not sure how to wire it. http://i47.tinypic.com/wild3d.jpg |

The bike ground wire needed to be wrapped around the signal mount, easy breezy... works great... nice and bright, nothing wonky! ----------------------- Signals have two wires... black and red. I wired red to the signal, and black to the (tail) running light... then I wired the bike ground, back to the bike (should have been closer to the light mount, but the light isn't mounted yet). Anyway, that worked, but poorly. I'm starting to understand a little more now... I probably should have ground to the signal mount (that's how my old single filaments worked)... but I gotta run to the store for fuses, I only have the tubes. Be back in a bit... with finished pics, or more trouble! :) |

Yup, red... looks better anyway! *I forgot I had ONE flat fuse in the bike toolkit (glued to the inside of the case, thanks Suzuki)... funny how something like that pops in your head when you most need it (I only looked at it once, years ago!) Anyway, half done... just cleaning up the wiring so it mounts nice! Pics soon! |
