Title: Saddlebags
Post by TobyJug on 05/05/12 at 12:44:37

Hi - does anyone know of any saddlebags that don't require mods to the bike (a 2008 S40) that can be locked in place and locked to protect the contents?  My wife works at our local university which may not be as safe as our garage.

Thanks in advance

Jug

Check with Leather Lyke. Hard bags that look like traditional bags. And maybe some Ghost Brackets (or similar).

Not much out there for the baby bikes. If the bag will fit Rebel 250 or Shadow VLX 600 it will fit a Savage (but the brackets will not).

You can make some. or have someone fabricate some bags. The one thought comes to mind is 30cal or 50cal ammo cans with locks installed. Just a thought..

50 cal are way too big. 45 or 223 cans are about right if you go with the 500 round cans.  But you will need to relocate your turn signals. Cans are easy if you don't mind the stock lopsided appearance due to shock offset. Just drill the cans and bolt them to the stock fender rail holes, using longer bolts.

Note: they look like crap on an otherwise stock machine.

Thats a nice looking bike. Nice job on the bags. I like the look. Thats what I was talking about. Ammo cans.

What I was thinking was something like the Mutasu saddlebags which I think look smart.  But I've read that the indicators are not vey visible and the overall quality isn't very good.  The next things up in price seem to be the Leatherlyke saddlebags.  Any other suggestions?  How about throw over bags with locks?

I have a pair of Mutasu and you're right about the turn signals so I mounted some aftermarket flush mount signals. And you're right about the quality not being great. But they were still holding up pretty good when I took them off last weekend. I had them on for about 3 or 4 years. Picture of the turn signals

Thanks ALfromN.H. Was it a real hassle to clean the bike with them on?
