Title: Hate to ask a oil question...... Post by Georgiadigger on 04/30/12 at 00:38:52 Seems like there is a little friction when it comes to oil questions around here but, my question isn't about what brand. I would like to know about weight. I live on the Georgia coast where in the summer it can reach 100 degrees and 100% humidity. I've been thinking about running 20/50 instead of 10/40. Would this be too thick? Any draw backs you can think of? All thoughts would be appreciated. Respectfully, Rocky |

Post by Oldfeller on 04/30/12 at 02:04:19 Provided you have picked a bike rated (JASO rated) oil with the necessary ZDDP content to protect your valve train, sure you can run 20w50 in the summer time. Might be a bit too thick in the cold of winter, but some here do that too. |
Title: Re: Hate to ask a oil question...... Post by Dave on 04/30/12 at 04:45:12 The owners manual is available here: http://www.savageriders.com/verslagen/transfer/2002_LS650P_Owners_Manual.pdf The chart shows that 20W-50 is good between 14 - 104+ fahrenheit. You can also use 15W-40 or 10W-50. |
