Title: Hoping Saturday is the Day!
Post by Greg on 04/27/12 at 16:09:46

I am going to look at a Savage tomorrow afternoon. It is exactly what I want, at least on paper. I hope it looks as good in person and the seller is truly negotiable on price. Keep your fingers crossed!

I am the proud new owner of a 2002 Savage! Took it on a short ride, maybe 25 miles, and parked it in my buddy's garage. I don't have a tag yet. Who knew you actually needed a valid drivers license to have title work done?  ::) By the time I got all that straightened out, the notary closed. I do have a drivers license, insurance, and the title signed over to me at this point. I will finish the paperwork on Monday. Thanks for easing my concerns about this bike. It definitely hauls my big butt around just fine. Now I will post some more silly questions asking for advice!  :)

It has 3600 miles and I paid $2K. Pictures will come soon! Probably this week. The bike is still sitting in my buddy's garage. I need to get a license plate for it.

Sorry jog2. I will try to 'member my netiquette better next time. :D

It is a 2002 Savage. Minor issues include a bent driver's foot peg, bent brake lever, blue header pipe, ugly windshield, and ugly saddle bags.

My buddy let me ride his 1200 Sportster just before we left to look at the Savage. I did that for 2 reasons. I wanted to get reacquainted with a bike since it has been a few years since I've ridden and to compare the git-up-n-go to a "real" bike. I am convinced I have the better/real bike!

Here she is! I need to figure out how to remove the pillion to remove the bags and find a wrench to fit the bolts on the back rest and drop it down. I can't lift my leg that high! :-[

Lookin good, congratulations.

Notice how the backrest is stuck into the side rails, they are sort of integrated. In order to do a good job of getting rid of the backrest, exchange your side rails with someone who doesn't have a backrest but wants one. Careful when removing the backrest, it is very easy to scratch the fender when taking it off.

Thanks. I don't want to remove the back rest. It appears to have a height adjustment. I just want to lower it. It seems to be a 12mm head and my 12mm wrench seems to have grown legs!

remove 2 bolts on either side of the front seat, then the pillion is easy 1 bolt.

Bags are off and back rest has been lowered!  :)

Yes, it is easy to scratch the fender.  :(

Thanks for all the tips. You guys are awesome!  :-*
