Title: fuel/air screw problem
Post by heroicseven on 04/25/12 at 21:30:14

My screw never seems to hit bottom when screwing in.. it comes out but won't set in.. puzzling and concerning

Sounds serious...  I'd see a doctor... :-?...

Honestly,... never heard of such a thing...
Between brass and aluminium,  I'm not sure which will strip out first...
Pull the idle mix screw, and check the threads... if they're okay, you're in trouble,...'cause I'm guessin' the pot is stripped...

Puzzling... is this the original idle mix screw?...

I do not know, unfortunately, bought it like a dummy and didn't ask many questions.

But Ill pull that bitty out and see whats up. It runs fine, just got a raptor after the stock pet gave up, and just did a rejet and spacer for fun, was running a 145 now a 150. Runs way smoother and stronger than before, but still would like to tune that thing. But after a little victory lap from all my upgrading it did shut down with a nice kerpop.

If its running fine, lay the screwdriver down,,

Not havin the screwdriver in the slot can be a problem,, I hope you were gentle with it when it bottomed out.

Ack!  Unless it's a very good single malt (which is pretty much outside my budget), drinking scotch is like drinking hair.

What's the preferred scotch when working on a Savage?

Old Pulteney 12 year.... darn smooth and only $ 45 a bottle! Its better than some $200 scotchs I have had!

Its one of the top ten best scotches!

Yep,  making a screw longer can be kind of difficult at times, but once you get it to hit bottom is sure does feel good.   8-)

I'm going to have to look for that one!  I'm slightly partial to the Islay malts myself, but if you're not against Canadian blends, Seagram's VO Gold 8-yr really impressed me last weekend.

Somehow I'm thinkin' they don't make a kit small enough for the threads in the pilot screw's hole.  If'n they do, I'd hate to try installing it!

Yep, distilled in a chilly little town called Wick.  I've done quite a bit of work there over the years.  One good bennie is that I always come home with a bottle or two of Old Pulteney.  BTW, when the locals pronounce it, it sounds to me like they are saying "piltny"...with the first syllable rhyming with "silt."
