Title: Before and after with ammo cans
Post by ALfromN.H. on 04/25/12 at 16:17:35

Okay here's a before picture. I'm sure you've all seen this picture. Then there is an after picture of what the bike looks like now. What do you think?

I thought about it for a long time before pulling the trigger. I liked it the way it was but the white paint was pretty trashed with scrapes and scratches. I figured if I went with a flat paint, it wouldn't show all the mistakes and it worked pretty good.

All you need now is a jerry can and ammo box.

I agree, the ammo cans would look cool. I wasn't gonna put the hard bags back on but my turn signals are mounted to the bags and I didn't feel like messing with new turn signals so the bags went back on. Maybe I'll look for some ammo cans,

I like it, Al!  So you'll be bringing your "after" bike to the Tail of the Dragon this year, huh?

I was thinking about bringing the C50 but most likely I'll be bringing the "Green Machine". It travels alot better in the back of the S10.

Who did you get to do your seat? It looks a good bit wider than the stock seat? Nice color!

pretty sure that's a corbin on the after vs. stock on the before.

versy was right about it being a corbin, pretty pricey but it was worth every cent as far as I'm concerned. Or should I say, as far as my butt's concerned. The before picture was a sporster seat which was better than stock but not by much.

So someone said that it would look good with ammo cans as saddle bags. I did it this morning. Here's a few pics. Not sure if I should paint them or leave them as they are.

That looks AWESOME. Way better than the other bags. And no, you definitely shouldn't paint them.

I agree with Mike...That looks absolutely incredible! I wouldn't paint them either.

Al,, seriously man? Just look that, step away & turn & look at it.. If you saw that bike sittin somewhere, would you say to yourself
" Aww yea,, but he sure shoulda painted those cans" or would you just say
Aww yea"?  Time to ride it a while...

Well I wasn't talking about painting them orange or pink or anything like that. I was thinking I should prolly paint them the same as the bike. The two shades of green are a little bit off. Then I could do some stencilling. But I'll just leave them the way they are. The only thing I have to do to them is install the turn signals but thats just a matter of drilling a few holes and running the wires.

Title: Re: Before and after with ammo cans
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 05/06/12 at 15:27:40

Well, Al,, I see your point, & yea, they Could look better, & some personalized stencils that you come up with would be cool, yea,, its a shade off ( Bummer you didnt think of the cans before you painted the bike. YOu coulda taken a can to the paint store & had them match the [paint to them.)

Hmm,, went & looked at that pic again,, the shade you went with is a lot better lookin than the paint on the cans.. You got paint left over to do them or you ghotta buy more? Is that rattle can?

What would you stencil on? Maybe get some Nuke symbol decals?
Im usually not very big on theme stuff, but for some reason, Im diggin that one,
The TKat is the right brace for that setup.

Title: Re: Before and after with ammo cans
Post by Fish on 05/06/12 at 16:10:38

I liked those other boxes but the ammo box saddle bags finish that bike off perfectly.

I say go ahead and paint them to match the bike, and then put some stenciling back on there.

Post by WD on 05/06/12 at 16:15:08

You need to add a rear fender extension and a vintage style tail light. Would make the cans look more proportional. And black out the shiny bits, ya wanna draw sniper fire... ;)

Just messing with you.

couple of trailer light for signals and you'll be set.

If you could get some wire grids to put over the headlight I think that would look good. You?

How about this for rear signals?

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-59523690850641_2207_7167518

Since youll be painting, you could drag up any old marker lite off a semi ( as long as its an amber lens) & hook them up.

red on the rear is acceptable.
and if you figure out how, could use them as stop lights too.

Heeeeck Yaaah! Coupla them with 1157 sockets in them & wire it up like tail lites on a car,.,get signals & brake lites all in one little lamp.
I think those would like great on this bike.

Post by RidgeRunner13 on 05/06/12 at 20:56:49

All you need is a trailer wiring converter for a car that has seperate brake & turn signals. You can get them at any parts store. I have one on my Savage for the trailer I pull, but on my other bike I replaced the turn signals with some surface mount LED brake/turn signal/tail lights & used one on it too. I made a wiring harnes that supplies power to them & a trailer light plug also. Works great! :o 8-)
