Title: Honda Shadow VLX600 Keihin Carb question
Post by Chopped on 04/21/12 at 22:57:32

Does this carb have a fuel/air mixture screw like the Suzi? Or have I just been awake too long?

I looked here

&

& searched this

keihin carburetor ve series air fuel mix adjust

I found one that does, goes on a 1,000 cc bike.

The VE series, I dont think it does, I dont see one in your pic & cant find reference to one anywhere,, but,, hey,, Ive missed obvious stuff before,,

it is a diaphragm...I think that goes to the choke somehow.

I had put the bigger main jet and cone filter on it, now it sorta boggs down under throttle. Its just frustrating

you might need to shim the needle to raise it, unlike the savage where you need to remove material to raise the needle. it depends on your carb.

I have a handfull of really small washers... I will throw one on and see what it does. I just can't believe that a Keihin wouldn't have a air mixture screw.

Isnt there a forum with riders in it who have bikes with those on them?

If I remember correctly,second picture,top center,left of the nipple,takes a "D" tool.

what is that... Im not sure? and I don't have a D tool, but Harbor Fright is right down the road!

A "D" tool is a driver with a "D" shaped opening in it.(Sorry, not trying to be a smarta--,only way I could describe it!) I have run across a couple of different carbs with that type screw instead of a screwdriver slot. I think it's supposed to discourage tinkerin' with it,but where's the fun in that!
I did the carbs on my son-in-laws VLX, it's been a little while, but I'm fairly sure that is the idle mixture screw.
Got to love the VLX,has a fuel pump(under the seat) even though the tank is above the carbs! Oh,and 3 valves per cylinder and 2 plugs per cylinder too!

I know what a D-tool is.... was asking what the screw was.... Now I know! thanks for pointing out the obvious! Now that im done giving you a ration... Thanks for the information. i will play with that and see if I can get the bike running right! They make the carb very difficult to work on the bike and even more so to remove to have to tinker with it.

Sorry about that! I guess I misunderstood which "that" you were talking about.
I agree,it is a pain to get to,and that airbox is also a royal pain!
If you ever want lots of frustration, sweat and cursing,do the carbs on a Magna. Kinda like the VLX,only there are 4 carbs set 2 per side in a v.
And no room to move!
Good luck with yours, glad I could help!(Even if it was only a little!)

Take a .22 shell and dent it into a 'D' shape.  Perfect tool for the fuel screw and free.  :D
