Title: 18" front wheel on Ryca
Post by wombat on 04/21/12 at 14:38:02

Has anyone tried an 18" front wheel on their Ryca CS-1? If so, how does it handle differently than before?

The notes that have been posted about the Scrambler shows 18" front and rear...4.00 and 4.25 I believe, but not positive

I spoke with Ryan at Ryca, who said he had no idea how the 18" wheel would work out. Won't know until the scrambler is finished.

I've got an 18" front rim going onto my RYCA inspired Roadster project, but it's still in the works, and not on the road as yet, so I will have to let you know. I found vintage Akront shoulder rims on Ebay; narrower than the scrambler ones shown above (Front is 2.15, I think? I'd have to check that; 2.5 rear), but more standard for a 60's/70's smaller road bike.

It'll lower the front end an extra 1/2 inch, and slightly quicken the steering response, but honestly I did it mostly for aesthetic reasons, and because my buddy Jay said he had a "wheel expert" who could figure it all out and do it cheap and easy. Turns out his expert flaked, and figuring out the correct spokes through Buchannan's was a pretty big PITA. (The rear was easy, since RYCA is already doing that and has all the measurements figured out and posted..)

The front wheel for mine is being assembled this week hopefully, so I will try to get you some pics and definitely let you know how she feels when it's finally on the road.

I have to say too...
This is the first I've seen these drawings of the RYCA Scrambler, and I LOVE the look of it way more than their cafe (which I liked a lot...) Vary excited to see that thing hit the road...
