Title: Hi...new owner!
Post by gcsdls on 04/20/12 at 20:04:12

Hi y'all!  I'm a brand-new rider (just finished the MSF course and got the license), and a brand-new owner (just bought a 2005 S40).  This old dog (49 years old) is learning a new trick...motorcycling!  Yeehah!   ;D

I'm in Arkansas, it's got 10,626 miles on it, and as far as service goes, I don't really know.  It has new tires and front brakes, and just had the oil changed...but I don't know anything more than that.

It seems to run good...the guy didn't have a manual, so I don't even know what service was due when, and whether it was done or not.  I'll get the manual, then ask the previous owner.  They're good people...seem to be, anyway.  :-)

Thanks for the welcome!

I am brand new to this forum.
I did not see any reference to this excellent source of factory manuals free downloads, so I'm posting the site link here.
I downloaded my S40 owners and service manuals from here.

http://www.partshark.com/

Go to downloads menu
This site also appears to be a good source of parts.

Thanks,

and the companion photo cd...

The Savage Companion Photo CD

The Savage Companion is a photographic essay devoted to Suzuki's LS650.  It contains over 675 high quality images that are viewable with any image software on any computer or DVD player.

This CD required over 6 months of photographic work and was compiled from over 5000 proofs.  I personally performed a teardown of my own bike (and a few pieces of my spouse's), plus many Savage riders from around the world generously contributed their own images.  All photographs are original and signed.

This CD is not a substitute for a manual, but rather it is intended to be your "Companion" when performing a maintenance task.  This collection will enhance the instruction found in the average motorcycle manual.  The color photographs will clarify those normally poor B&W images, and many include close-ups and my personal notes.

It is my sincere hope this Savage Companion will be an inspiration to grab a wrench and have fun with your LS650.  After 40 years in motorcycling, it is my personal belief that the best and safest riders are also their own mechanic...

...after all, "when a rider understands all the working parts, a rider becomes one of those working parts"...

Topics Covered in the Companion CD are:

Air and Fuel - Intake to Exhaust
Electrical - Wiring & Components
Engine - Pistons to Gears
Frame - It Holds it all Together
Owners - World Owners Gallery
Tinkering - Things To Do or Not (?)

Thank You, Savage Greg

That's awesome!  Thanks so much!  I was thinking I'd have to shell out some $ for the manual from the dealer....  :-)

And I've been enjoying the pics from the Photo CD this morning...that's GREAT!

I've taken the liberty of downloading what's available from the link myself,
and have noticed that the average Savage rider is "the discriminating gentleman"
8-)
as opposed to the whizz-kid astride his crotch rocket or the tattoed Popeye riding his modified Harley.

;)

What we need now is a motorcade of Savage riders all kitted out in tailcoat and top hat !!!

:D

Arkansas? I'm about an hour northeast of Memphis. Trying to put together a Dixieland Savage Gathering sometime this summer. Strictly a laid back for fun thing.

Four people, five bikes here.

Welcome to the group.

Thought I was writing this for a second - I haven't ridden in 30 years , just finished MSF course over the weekend, new bike, turned 49 last week...except I'm in Oklahoma. Welcome.
