I did a search, but couldn't find this. What is high mileage for a Savage? I have 12K currently and I'm curious what lies ahead. ;)

Well, you've got say 20k before the tensioner needs modified/replaced. modding it gives you another 20k, then a new chain, wash/rinse/repeat till 70k/80k which is I think the earliest non-damaged belt breakage (just switch to a chain then!). after that... I dunno, rebore up 1mm every 80k miles and you could probably get to 200k assuming the elements don't get to the frame/electrics.

maybe i'm overlooking some top-end replacements in there (valves? cam?) but I don't think so. not unless you are tweaking your savage. just wait till you hit 20k and you'll be eyeing her up and down, thinkin' about getting all dirty and up inside that engine...

I have heard of one old German feller who had over 100,000 miles on his stock configured bike a while back. We had one dude who dumped 40-60,000 on his touring the USA all over after college and then he rode it until we lost track of him.

The bikes get traded away before they die -- with good maintenance and good repair practices we have A WHOLE LOT of 1987 vintage bikes on this list right now.

Piston slap comes to see you after 40,000 miles, eventually. But rebore doesn't cost that much.

1 search is not enough, but I know it's looking for a needle in a haystack.

a search for "most miles" turned up 100 hits, about 6 were relevant.

RIGHT ON!! I'm super jealous... If I wasn't a dad and a workaholic, I might be there too... I hate to say, but I doubt I've done that many miles in 20 years on all of my bikes combined!
