Title: taillight/break light replacement problem?
Post by TonyP on 04/14/12 at 16:01:44

Hello! Long time visitor, newbie member here. It's great to see so many good people working together to help each other out. Hopefully I will be able to contribute back to the site as much as I have learned.

So here's my issue... I'm in the process of replacing the "lunch box" type taillight/break light on my '97 LS650 with a smaller compact "snake eye" type. The running light appears to be working correctly, but when I engage the hand or foot break the second filament on the bulb doesn't light. The one lit filament will get only slightly brighter, but nowhere near as bright as it should be. The seller has confirmed that the light has been tested and verified working. I've referred to the wiring diagrams and everything appears to be wired correctly. So what am I missing or doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

most aftermarket lite problems are due to the standard harlet wiring scheme which most tend to follow.

Is it 2 wire or 3 wire?

2 wire we have to add a ground wire to the lite housing.
1 wire goes to the stop lite and the other to the running.

It's a 3-wire setup on the new taillight.

Thanks!

my guess would be that you got the ground wire swapped with the brake light.

Unfortunately, swapping the ground wire and the break light wire didn't help. The break light still was only a little bit brighter than the running light. So I exchanged the new bulb socket assembly with the socket assembly from the original tail light and mounted it into the snake eye housing. It works perfectly now...

Thanks for your help!
