Title: Foot peg help........
Post by Georgiadigger on 04/13/12 at 04:44:18

I would like to buy some front pegs for my 2007 S40. It was a simple enough thought but, upon looking at pegs. I really don't know what type I have on my bike. What type do I need: Male, female, adaptors, extensions and clamp on etc. Thanks for any help for a Suzuki greenhorn!

The existing pegs would be considered male ends. They are both the same, even tho the mounts are much different. The RH mount is bolted thru the brake pedal plate secured w/ a large nut.
The LH mount is all part or the sidestand mount casting.
Any replacement pegs would have to be made for this bike, or else would need (not so easy) modifications to fit properly.

You can strip the pegs down & attach something to the mount part of the peg, just replace the part from the hinge out. I want mine hinged, because they seem to get on the ground a lot in corners.

So how would I get the right side peg off? I've tried but it won't budge. Any suggestions?

Off the bike? Or trying to get the peg itself apart?
Penetratin oil is a handy thing,,Kroil or wintergreen oil, not wd 40.

Make sure the nut isnt staked,, What to do is obvious enough, getting it done may not be so easy.
Guys, are these nuts staked?

I can't get the peg loose from the mounting plate.
I've tried everything possible short of using a torch to heat it up. Thought I was gonna break something.

What are you doing exactly? What tools are you using? Have you used a cheater & a hammer on whatever youre getting on it with? Penetrating oil & wait?

So if I get male pegs. Would they work on the S40. Does anyone have links to pegs they've bought and installed on a S40? I just want some Retro looking chrome or powder coated pegs.

Respectfully Rocky

I was hoping to replace the pegs with some new ones. I'll try some penetrating oil to see if that helps. And if it still doesn't help, I'll post some pics of whats going on there.

Sorry Georgiadigger for hijacking your thread. I'll start a new thread if I need more help.

I wish you would tell me how youre going at it, or try what I said/.If youd get an extension on the wrench & smack down on it a few times, Id bet it will come loose.

I don't know what to tell ya. I'm using a wrench on the peg and trying to turn it. Not much more to it than that. I haven't tried penetrating oil so I'll give that a try to see if it will loosen up a little. If not, then I guess I'll leave the old ones on there.

Well, do you have the box end on it? If so, hook a box end into the open end & make your lever longer, SMACK it,, Its gonna hurt, okay? Wear a glove, be aware the extension wrench can & WILL rotate & you can get hurt,,be careful. If youre not careful, you will get your wrench against the part that the brake pedal is on, & then it cant turn,, you may be there,, If that spring is still on,, its probably in the way., YOu can pull the whole asembly off, remove the pedal & spring, reinstall it & go to work.

Okay, thanks Justin. I'll spray it with some penetrating oil after work tonight, then tomorrow after work I'll give it a try.

male pegs will work, you might have to drill the mounting hole on peg a little bigger

Okay, I sprayed it with liquid wrench and let it set for a day. Went out this morning to try to take it off and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for spelling it out for me. Exactly what I needed. It's hard being a newbie/dummy, LOL.  ;D
