Title: No Lights, No Horn, No Turnover...
Post by khalvo on 04/12/12 at 12:12:32

In advance, any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I purchased a 2009 s40 NEW from the dealership last May. I put it away for the winter and would occasionally ride it to keep the battery charged as we had a very light winter. The last time I rode it the battery was weak so we push started it and I rode it around for a while. By the time I got back the headlight and blinkers were totally dead. I assumed the battery was shot so I parked it. I pulled it out last week and put a new battery in and the lights still don't work. I get no sound when trying to start the bike. The only things that work are the neutral indicator, brake light, and hazards.

I checked the 2 20 amp fuses and they look good but I havent replaced them yet. I find it irritating that I called the dealership I pulled it from and they tell me its probably a gummed up carburetor from sitting all winter...

I would like to not have them work on it for obvious reasons so thank you in advance for your help.

First, get the battery out & check water, then, take it to have it charged & checked out.

If the battery is okay, ride it, pay attention to it, if it starts acting like the battery is running low, AND youve been riding far enough after each start to actually recharge it,then its time to check the charge circuit.

I would love to ride it but even with the brand new battery I can't even get it to turnover, thus my predicament

AAAhhh,, sorry,, brand new battery, fully charged?

Theres a connector under the tank that has been known to work loose,, It will do that.

Yeah its a brand new battery, I bought it from the dealership and had them fill and charge it before I picked it up.

I did have a shop jet the carb last spring and they would have pulled the tank, maybe they didn't get it clipped in all the way...

Check all your connections. When you turn the key on, you should have your headlight as well.

Found the connector you were referring to, by the time I got the tank off it was completely off, reconnected and everything is great. thanks a ton

Do you have a picture of the connector under the tank you are talking about?
