Title: 10 ape hangers Post by happything on 04/11/12 at 09:46:54 Does anyone know if 10 in apes will fit on a 1995 Savage? |
Title: Re: 10 ape hangers Post by EJID on 04/11/12 at 10:14:14 As long as they are 1" they will fit the risers & controls...your problem may be with the wiring, cables & brake line. Probably 9 out of 10 people on here that have changed their bars to apes have had to replace the clutch cable, throttle cable, and brake line. I had to do all 3 plus extend the wiring to swap these bars... http://p1.bikepics.com/2011/07/18/bikepics-2242175-800.jpg to these... http://p1.bikepics.com/2012/03/08/bikepics-2361246-full.jpg |
Title: Re: 10 ape hangers Post by Hashbrown on 04/11/12 at 10:19:21 i was able to do the 10" apes without getting new cables. its going to be a tight fit but you should be able to position them so that it just barely fits. |
Title: Re: 10 ape hangers Post by SimonTuffGuy on 04/11/12 at 15:43:31 I had a set that I mounted to the bike last year, but never got around to getting cables made for them. I heard stories that the Savage cables would make it work, but it was just too tight (thats what he said) to work. I need to find someone who can custom make me some cables and then I probably WILL swap them sometime. For now, I just went back to the stock bars so that I can ride this year. |

When I did mine in the pics above, I disassembled the stock risers that are shown in the 1st pic and only used the clamping portion of the riser with some new bolts. Saved $$$ from having to get new risers 8-) |
Title: Re: 10 ape hangers Post by aintright on 04/12/12 at 16:13:13 so this may sound dumb, but i haven't taken mine apart yet to see how it all works, but how did you disassemble the stock risers and reuse the top portion to clamp them |
Title: Re: 10 ape hangers Post by SimonTuffGuy on 04/12/12 at 16:24:21 aint - When you take your bars off, there is a bolt underneath to remove the top portion. For mine - I picked up a set of risers from the Savage, since they had mini buckhorns with less rise than the S40. |
Title: Re: 10 ape hangers Post by drums1 on 04/13/12 at 07:45:02 On my '87, I used 3" risers and 6" buckhorns. All the cables and brake line fit nicely. http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z473/savagepat1/bike3.jpg http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z473/savagepat1/bike5.jpg http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z473/savagepat1/colouredexhaust.jpg |
