Title: Front brakes.......
Post by Georgiadigger on 04/01/12 at 00:09:22

I know this will be just a ballpark number but, I am curious about the answer.

With normal wear & tear, how many miles should I expect to get out of my front brake pads. My bike has 3,200 miles on it. Pads & rotor work and look fine but, squeal like hell. I've tired cleaning walked the bike backwards depressing the brake to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Respectfully, Rocky

go for kevlar pads, will last twice as long

Do y'all have a link to the Kevlar pads or to a sponsor of this site that sells them? Wouldn't mind paying a little extra if they sponsor the forum! Thanks

This is the brand I like...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Brake-Pads-Suzuki-LS650-LS-650-Savage-NP41A-87-99-/370513468462?pt=AU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item564452dc2e&vxp=mtr

Couldn't find it when I needed it so I'm using these now...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-FRONT-Brake-Pads-LS-650-LS650-Savage-Boulevard-/190548462293?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5d92cad5&vxp=mtr

both are acceptable, I got about 12k miles out of the top ones, still working on the bottom.

For future reference...

Here are my front brake pad data so far:

1. OEM pads lasted 3200 miles.

2. Ferodo Platinum pads lasted 4100 miles.

3. EBC Organic pads have been on there for 4800 miles and are getting close to the end.

I can't complain about the performance of any of these three different pairs of pads.

While my durability numbers are less than stellar, I must point out that, while I don't ride my Savage aggressively, almost all of the bike's miles have been urban ones......

it says from 87-99 would these pads work on my 07 or did somethings change with the breaks after 99?

nothing has changed on the brakes since '86. those pads will work fine. Also, I have found that verslagen's drilled rotor also helps with the squeel.

There is a "micro" switch under the brake lever. But it is just a standard brake switch. No way to really make the light come on faster. If yours still works, don't touch it... $5 universal part but still... Cheap plastic crap... >:(
