Title: Changing Rear Brakes
Post by heroicseven on 03/31/12 at 11:21:02

I'm do for a front brake change, and the back are sqeakin mighty fine, well they always do, but more now I feel.

Has anyone done a brake change on the rear by themselves? or should I take it in and have it done. Im concerned about wheel alignment when I put it all back togeter and belt tightness.. etc.

any thoughts?

thanks

Easy as toast... just like old car brakes... (only smaller, with easier springs)..

... but,.. if yours are worn out, you're using them too much.
I got 27k on mine and the rear brakes are like new... most of your stopping power is in the front.

My buddy Gerry has 40k+ with original rear shoes...
They should outlast the bike... ;)...

Wheel alignment ... use the notches on the adjuster to get close, then put a yardstick along the tire to see that it runs parallel with the belt/beltguard...  close enough, is close enough, it ain't that critical...

Belt tightness should be, not floppy, not tight... if you can twist the belt at midway 90' with your thumb and forefinger it's just dandy...

People worry too much... ;)...

If your problem is squeaking, then sand your drum surface some and clean out all the dust inside the drum.

We all generally do this every time we change a tire or a tube.

Rear brakes don't wear out.
