Title: Starting sequence
Post by Cavie on 03/23/12 at 18:47:53

Just curious about how different bikes start from cold. Just had valves adjusted, carb jetted, Dyana muffler installed, K & N filter. Runs great. Starting sequence is:  Full choke, No throttle. Starts within 2 sec. Idells for about 2 min while I put on my gear. (Still no throttle). Knock the choke off and I'm ready to go. My VOL on the other hand, needs no choke or throttle to start. Add choke to step up RPM for about 2 min and I'm ready to go.

With Dyna muffler, K&N cone, rejet and all adjusted mine starts on the first turnover and needs the first click of choke for about 30 seconds. Then it takes a few minutes (2ish) to warm up on its own at idle.

Mine starts in a second... with choke or no...
... but, if it's less than 80',... it runs better with with one notch of choke for the first couple minutes/miles... and resting idle, will be a little low, 'till warmed up...

I don't idle to warm up... wastes gas, and takes longer...
...just go easy for the first few minutes 'till warmed...
Same in a car... idling gets you nowhere... ;)...

I keep forgetting about the two-stage enrichener on the Mikuni.  The Amal Mk2 has a lever and it's either on or off.  One of these days I may have to get the option that allows me to use a cable to actuate it from a thumb lever on the handle bar.
