Title: Makin progress
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/15/12 at 21:30:28

Got the clutch cover on, sanded the ugly clear coat off, need to hit it with the wet 1200 grit a while, its gonna look much better,
Got the head cover on, been messin with the ex valves, Im tired, I quit,, gonna sit & listen to Noory a while,
If anyone has replaced their stock rear signals & would be willing to sell them, it needs them,,Epoxy is a great friend, but I am willing to ride a bike with a splint on the stalk,, not everyone else IS,,
Gonna hafta get a battery,, I guess,, I mean, even a Big Crank wont survive being dead for 2 years, will it?

Charge the battery at 2 amps for 24 hours then off 24 then back on 24 then off again, do that for a 4-5 days.

IIRC, I paid a bit more for this one about 30 years ago.,.It IS made in the USA, tho..I may just grab me a fresh one,,

Is that a good technique for saving this battery?

+1 the $20 Schumacher is good, but I wouldn't buy one just to try to condition an old battery.  Do a series of shorter charge periods w/higher amps from the charger you have.  That will tell you just as well that lead-acid batteries ain't ni-cads.

I've got a set of stock signals.  I would say PM me, but I'm not sure if it's up again yet...

Justin, I promise you I got a splint on both rear stalks!  ;D It was 82 degrees in N mississippi today, so I took a 70 mile rounder to see my aunt and uncle. Harleys are blooming everywhere and they all waved. Nobody mentioned the splints.
