I got my supertrapp all cleaned up and polished. It needs some type of chemical conversion coating to protect it from corrosion. Anyone here ever use Alodine? I think it gets way too hot for clear coat. Any suggestions? I don't want to paint it black. Maybe have to get it anodized.

I'm not sure how good an idea it would be for aluminum but I had my stock header pipe ceramic coated. I keep saying that I'll do the same to my MAC muffler one of these days but the BBQ black seems to still be working on it, so I'll wait. I have been very happy with the ceramic coated header and many places have various colors available.

aluminium supertrapp exhaust?

didn't know they made one for the savage.

alodine will treat bare aluminum, but not as good as anodize.

and not sure about the heat.

It's an old old one, off some old twin a buddy had. Got it for next to nothing and it came "broken in". 8-)

It's an acidic etching that oxidizes the surface of the aluminum and acts as a sacrificial/protective layer against further corrosion. It's not as effective as anodizing which is a dip in a tank and similar. Both are ideal for prepping for primer then paint. Or something like that.

Problem solved hopefully. I got this clear coat at NAPA, $6, can't go wrong.
