A buddy of mine just bought a 2002 Sportster 1200 custom. No rubber mounted engine(they came out a year later), he said it shakes the heck out of him at Super-Slab speeds. It's a quick machine off the line and up through 60 or so.

He keeps checking for oil leaks...LOL

I have heard the oil leaks are now an extra cost option on HD ; :).

My 2004 1200 Sportster (Rubber mounted)  kept its oil better than its Primary chain !   Only had 13,000 miles on it.   Primary screwed-up twice !

Did you know that 92% of Harleys that were ever built are still on the road?

The rest made it home. ;D

That is because they have under 20,000 miles after 40 years.....
They should put bars further than 5 miles from a Harley owners house. So they can ride the bike.

The rest made it home. ;D

A Harley that doesn't leak oil? Hmm, they quit leaking about the time that KAWASAKI redesigned the cylinder heads, YAMAHA started supplying the gaskets, and TOYOTA started supplying the starters...

I miss Harley Davidson. Rest in Peace HD 1903-1964 Rest in Peace Hardley Runnerson 1965-1969 Rot in Pieces Hardly Worth a $hit 1970-current

Oldest HD I've ever rideen was a 1920 Sport Twin (fore and aft boxxer, think BMW turned sideways). If it wasn't leaking, it didn't have any oil in it, total loss oiling system.

Hay, I like Harleys on the road. The crome shifter on my Geo Metro convertable (Suzuki built) is a kick starter from a harley that was found in the middle of the road where it fell off. ;D

Have to say I actually owned one Harley/AMF scooter that did not leak oil and WAS a running bike! A 1972 Harley Sprint SS350 thumper. Of course it was really built by Americchi(spelling in question!).

Now, now. Let's be polite to our fellow riders and their machines, even though that machine is a Harley. Have we not all made a mistake or two in our lives?

I have been told there is one Harley that does not flood the environment with oil. I have also been told that you can recognize this Harley from a distance because, instead of wearing a bandana and a denim vest with a DIILAGAF patch,  the rider wears a full face helmet and a high viability yellow armored jacket emblazoned with a DGAF patch. (Does Give A Flip). I am not saying I have ever seen him...just that I have been told he exists...along with Santa and the Easter Bunny.

V-rods don't leak oil, but... since the "V-Odd" is actually a Porsche with HD tanks badges... doesn't count.
