anyone has heard anything/has had one of these?

all I know is that they are pretty cheep ($500-2,000USD)
and they seem to age well (no rust!), and there are even some for
sale with some 100K miles, amazing, and that alone says A LOT!

I didn't know Honda made  one either. Here is a link with specs. http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/honda_xbr_500_1989.php A thumper with dual exhaust.

Honda imported the GB500 into the states in around 89 for a year or two, if I remember rightly. Have only come into contact with one. Beautiful bike that ran like a scalded cat. Wish I owned one.

No, sir, it's a single.

Appears to be the same 4valve single used on the XL 550 enduro, albeit 500cc.

44 PS (45hp to you) are quite an improvement from the Savage's 32 hp !

I'd say, go for it, as long as you can enjoy her in the riding months !

8-)

A GB500 can still be had around here for about 5k.  I like the XBR better though, boomerang rims and all.  8-)

And an awesome fine Thumper it is too (as is the Suzuki TU250X) ...

The last Bike in the photos above is indeed the rare (for North America anyways) Honda GB500TT ... arguably one of the most beautiful Bikes ever produced ... too bad they only sold over here for 2 years ... shame really ...

There is a GB500 for sale here in Phoenix, just like the one in the photo. $6500.

There's another Honda 500cc thumper, the Ascot.  I have two friends who each have one.  In fact, when I got back into riding in 2008, one of my friends lent me his Ascot to ride for a couple of weeks, before I got my S40.

The Ascot grew another cylinder and became a V-Twin when Honda developed the motor back in the 80's for the VT500 Shadow ... from what I've seen on the Web lately with the rise of Street Trackers as a popular trend with backyard customizers, both the single cylinder Ascott and the V-Twin version have become somewhat desirable.

BTW, we have two TU250Xs in the training fleet of the Beginner Rider Course I part-time with during summer and every single Instructor just loves those Bikes (I've ridden 'em myself and also think the TU250 is one of the most comfortable and nimble handling Bikes I've perched my arse on!) ... and to a person, they've all said that a TU with the LS650 motor would be just AWESOME! I agree!

Perry, The April 2012 Rider magazine has a Newfoundland ride. The author says the Vikings were pretty tough, but they only stayed 10 years. If you can't come up with one PM me your address and I'll mail you mine. Great photos.

For some reason I have wanted an Ascot for years, as well as the CX 500. I guess we all got our quirky choices for some bikes, guns, planes...

LOL!! Yeah, those Vikings, who ventured to our shores almost 500 years before Columbus, Cabot and other European explorers decided to cross the Atlantic, couldn't take our weather ... or the hostile Natives! Some tuff eh? ;)

Perry, I sit here every night and listen to the spring peepers (tiny frogs) in the pond in my front yard. Sat on the front porch with my daughter for an hour last night and let her ramble. Rode about 75 miles round trip to Shiloh Nat'l Battlefield Park yesterday. It's 85 here today in N. Ms. Breaking records. I can't even remember cold weather, let alone snow. Best wishes from N Ms.   Boofer  :)
