Title: Married 35 years
Post by Boofer on 03/04/12 at 17:57:54

Met my wife at a church softball picnic in August 1976. Married on March 4, 1977. Every time we argue about a judgment call she makes that I don't like, I just say "March 4, 1977". She can't argue. She made a bad call at least once.   ;D Lucky me.

LOL!  I'll have to remember that one.  35 is quite an accomplishment.  Congratulations to you both for the effort that takes and best wishes for continued happiness!  My wife and I will be marking our 21st in about two weeks.  St. Patty's Day is an easy one to remember!

Congrats...
The best I ever did was near that long ago,.. been through dozens since, and never found another one dumb enough to put up with me...
Older you get,.. the less flexible you become... at this point, I'm lookin' for a twin sister... lost at birth...

That might be illegal... :-?... plus... I'm an only child... ;D...

Tell her.. you both caught the right train,... and hug her till her eyes bulge...

Many congrats to Boofer and others that get to go the distance.

My wife asked me what I thought about it.  I said "It's a good start".

Congrats to everyone who holds on for any length of time. My wife and I saw 10 go by in January.

Did anyone else see the irony in the topics?

"What's yer biggest wild goose chase?
Married 35 years"

Congrats.
37 years as of Jan 27. I have known her for 40.
We met at our cousin's wedding. My cousin is now on his third marriage, her cousin on her second.
She was 5 months pregnant when we married and sent me out for burgers at 3 AM on our wedding night. ;D

That beats my story!

We went to McDonalds after going to the J.P. to get married.  Then we both went back to work.

J.P. " Do you two want to get married? "
Us " Yes "
J.P. " You are.  Pay the clerk. "

Thanks for the nice replies. I'll let my wife read them. A slightly older friend and his wife both died a year apart. He said when she tried to leave him he said "Let me pack a suitcase, 'cause I'm coming with you." Great friends and good advice.

Met my wife at a Hallowe'en party at the Officers' Club... literally "stole her" from a colleague.

Went steady after a month, proposed after a year, married after another three.

Wer've been hooked to each other ever since  8-)

I married late (30) so it's only 22 years for us, but don't look now, it's only another 28 for our 50th anniversary !!!  :D

Am I the senior old married guy here?  It was 41 years for us in January.  We married very young, right out of college,  I was about 23, she was about 22.

We met at the airport where she was a flight student and I was a flight instructor, but not her instructor.

Linda and I celebrated 44 last December.  My aunt and uncle celebrated their 60th, and it was a second marriage for my aunt.  I know a lot of divorced people, but I have to say that when I think about it, almost all of my close friends have been married for many years, and show no signs of slowing down.  When it works, there is no other way to live.

Wow.... Lots of long timers here... I just passed the 1 year mark with my wife. Married on New Years Eve 2011. Although we've been together for 8 years now all together (dating 6, engaged for 1). We had bought a house and a dog, which kind of cemented the deal before we got engaged.

I paid for college playing in rock 'n roll bands.  Those bands have groupies.  One particular groupie was chasing the bass player.  He wasn't interested, so she changed her focus to me.  That was 46 years ago.  Today is our 44th anniversary.

One line I like to use that she despises:

"Hey, Bob, how long has has it been for you two?"

"Seven years.  Seven years of wedded bliss.  Seven out of 44 is not too bad, eh?"

Methinks that I smell the aroma of sour grapes.  You know, there is a reason why suicide rates are much higher for single people than married people.  Relationships: spouses, friends, children, family, workmates, riding buddies, are what really makes life worthwhile.  A loving spouse isn't the only relationship, but it certainly is an important one.
