Title: DIY stoneguard...
Post by Serowbot on 03/01/12 at 12:41:27

I cut a circle of expanded metal,.. bashed a curve into it on a sorta' round rock with a rubber mallet,.. then installed with a pair of those bendy wire loom holders, so I can remove it to clean the headlight...
Scrambler tech!... ;D...

Are you going to do a matching one on the back lights for the full "scrambler" appearance?  ;)

Can't say this is the best use of your off day, but the craftsmanshift is flawless.  ;D How about one for your helmet?

You can sit around and drink beer all day,... or.. you can mod yer' bike and drink beer all day...
Gerry H. has been buggin' me to do it, then Versy reinforced the idea...  it just got me off my arse...
Ebay prices were $20 and up, and the wrong size... and I still have to figure a way to mount them...  I'm a DIY guy...
Helmet?... Hmmmm?... .. :-?...

I am continually pleasantly surprised at how nice mods like this look, especially compared to products on the market.

Well done, sir.

Why not run some door edge molding around the perimeter? It would stop the cut edges from scratching the light and make it look finished.
I had a Land Cruiser and put fog, driving, and rain lights on it, and made guards like yours for all of them.
BTW, you are losing 10-20% of the brightness with that. Check it out with a light meter some night.

That makes a difference only if you ride at nite  ;)

Nice job tho.
But I d rather dream up a rock guard for the drive belt.
Still just scares the hell outta me when a rock goes thru that belt !

I originally attached it with safety wire, but decided to go to the wire loom clips so that I can remove it easily... 5 seconds with no tools... so I can get it off easy for night if necessary...
As a side benefit, the rubber coating on the wire clips cushions the guard against the lens...
Brilliant engineering?... nope, dumb luck... ;D...

You loose 10-20% in the day too. ;)

Nice bottle cage on the right side there, is that fuel or water in that blue steel bottle?

Just water,... gotta' have water here in Arizona...

It would be a good place for a spare fuel bottle though...
There's already a tapped hole there, that once held a reflector.. and the bottle holder is from a bicycle... fits and works great...
;)...

I have a sports spray bottle. It pumps up & when its really hot, a little water on the chest, evaporating as I ride, is almost like an AC. It hangs on the right side, behind my leg.
