Title: Fork oil?
Post by splash07 on 02/27/12 at 11:06:07

Can I use regular 15W motor oil or do I have to buy oil specific for motorcycle shock?

I usually put fork oil in, regular 15w oil has a tendency to foam and build pressure which will blow seals..
It isn't that expensive..

The cost is not really a concern, Im just having a hard time locating some.

All motorcycle dealers carry fork oil.

While I'd use fork oil over anything else... ATF can be used in a pinch.

Hey i just did fork seals and was wondering if you can just fill with oil through the top of fork or have to go in the bottom hole? I saw on a writeup to fill through bottom bolt hole. Was also wondering how much each side holds. thanks

While franch says to fill from the bottom... I didn't.  Just poured it in from the top.

Just a note, with the springs installed and the top tube colapsed, the oil come up to about an inch from the top... if I remember correctly.   :-?
