My son's 2003 Savage has a problem with the carb. It is flooding, it seems to be that the floats aren't doing their job of controlling the flow of petrol, I have replaced the float valve and tried time and time again to adjust the floats with the result being that either the float bowl still floods and pushes petrol out of the 2 breather pipes or the flow of petrol is stopped completely, I can't seem to hit the spot where the petrol flows and doesn't flood. Does anyone know whether there is a specific setting for the floats to be set at? Any help would be gratefully received, this thing is driving me NUTS! :o

It's possible that it's not the carb but the petcock that is at fault. Check your vacuum line for fuel. There is also a thread in the tech section on testing your petcock.

Yeah, I had a similar problem, replaced the petcock (with the Raptor one) and have had no problems since.

Float level is 1.06 to 1.114 in..... Top of float to carb body..

I think I'd be safe to say any carb should be downsideup when checking float measurements.
If doing it topside up, it would be hard to get an accurate measurement.

Wouldn't it be nice if every carb was like the end bowl Holleys,......float adjustable while the engine is idling......till gas runs out the level hole ;)
