What is the wear pointer on the rear break wear indicater? Is it the slot in the arm that clamps to the shaft or is it the grove cut in the end of the shaft. At rest, with brake rod not attached, the slot in the shaft lines up past the right end of the indicator on the hub. Does the arm have to be moved on the splines to line up with the right side of the indicator at rest. :-/

Groove cut in the end of the shaft. Adjust the brakes accordingly with everything together. Pedal should have 0.8-1.2 inches of play before the brakes engage. With the brake fully applied the groove should line up to be be within the marks.

Thanks. I took it apart tody and figured out that one of the PO's had removed the brake arm and replaced on the spines to far forward. I guess he was looking for more return spring tention. That caused the lever to move forward and run out of threads on the brake cable. Put it back together on the splines in the proper place and all is good.
